Amazing how far the pendulum has swung from the BCS - where they didn’t want a playoff.

The money took over. There’s a lot more money in 12 than 4 or 8.

That’s gonna be brutal for teams in their conf championship. Injuries may become a problem. I predict some big programs revolt when it gets sideways for them.

The playoff needed some expanding but 12 is just too much. It waters down the product

You wouldn't be happy if lsu was in the playoffs this year? Even if it was 11th or 12th? Lsu could beat some of the teams in the top 12 if they play their A game.
And yes, theres a good chance they finish in the top 12 after the regular season/conference title games are over

The new 12-team College Football Playoff field will include the six highest-ranked conference champions, which will receive automatic bids. The top four teams will receive a first-round bye to the quarterfinals. The six highest-ranked teams remaining will round out the 12-team format.

To be fair, next year it will be the Power 4 champs, one more champ and 7 at-large.

Using either calculation, the lowest at-large team would be #11 and we are at #14 right now. It is within reach, but would require a few upsets to get us there.

I don’t think he means this year specifically. Probably talking about the opportunity to play these power houses that we don’t typically get to play at home

Seeding the playoffs with byes and home field advantages would truly make the playoffs epic! Just picture the atmosphere at Tiger Stadium for a playoff game against Ohio State, Michigan, Oregon etc. The place would be absolutely rocking! IMO, it has the potential to match or surpass the quality of the NFL playoffs.

I just don't want to see further expansion to 16 or more. That would absolutely dilute it

You're going to be in for disappointment in the future then. More teams will want in because of the money and exposure (which equates into money). My guess, they'll go to 24 and have to cut it off there.

It’s the power 5 conference champs, best group of 5 team, and 6 at large.

How is that gonna work with the pac-12/8/4 going extinct?

Works just fine with a 24 team playoff in FCS

No, the #12 team would play #5 I think. Top 4 get byes. Probably be at Texas or something.

You are talking about a team possibly playing 5 post-season games (6 with a conference championship game) after a 12 game regular season. There is no way in hell college presidents would allow that to happen.

The PAC12 is out now though, so it is the Big12, ACC, B1G, and SeC plus the top G5. Then 7 at large. That would mean you have to be in the top 11 this year to make it.

I don’t like guaranteeing a g5 team a bid - sometimes there might be 12 more deserving power teams.

It will be a great way to shut up the undefeated nobodies like UCF or Boise State. Then we wouldn’t have to hear how they were the best team in the country but didn’t get a chance.

No they don't deserve it. I love LSU but the defense is garbage and they don't deserve to be in a playoff spot 4 or 12.

I would think 9/10 years another team will be more deserving than a G5 but that’s the setup that was voted on.

This is stupid. Guys like you and Josh Pate and JD Pickell make no sense with this. Those games are still for seeding purposes. The top 4 teams get first round byes. The higher seeded teams get home games in the quarterfinals. Those are clear advantages.

Even now losing one game won't kill you in a four team playoff in the SEC or Big 10, or if you're a team like Clemson/Texas/Oklahoma. if FSU loses a game and is without Jordan Travis, a 1 loss Texas Big 12 champ would get in over any 1 loss Pac 12 team that isn't Washington.

Think about it though. LSU's offense is championship caliber. What happens if they have a game where they're just perfect? The defense only has to come up with a stop, just one, for LSU to win. Then LSU gets matched with Iowa in the second round. They have to score 20 to win, and they're in the final four. Is it great football? Not exactly, but the national championship game wasn't good last year. LSU vs Oklahoma wasn't good. There are as many hits as there are misses. All they're doing is creating more hits.

I still feel like we could beat anyone this season. If were to have squeaked in, I would have my hopes high as hell for a few upsets. I don’t think any big 10 team would have wanted to see this offense.
