They still got physically dominated on the boards. They won’t be able to outshoot their problems all year…

That Nicholls loss was inexcusable. LSU has the core of a good basketball team. There was no reason to lose to a second

Y’all have so much emotion build up through the game it’s so hilarious to watch yall bitch like a bunch of 2 year olds. Adjustments were made at half on both ends and North Texas had some open looks but made a ton of tough shots in the first half. They shot 31% from the field in the game and we have people bitching on here about them making 3s all game it’s comical. Let’s nit pick so we can bitch about this coach we don’t like because we are so emotionally invested in saying he’s not good and he sucks you find yourself rooting against your own school. It’s the saddest shite I’ve ever seen.
I agree with this

I think they have enough talent but they’re gonna have to work really hard for it.

North Texas is a good team with a good coach and a decent program.
That coach is now at Texas Tech. The current HC was an assistant last season. NTU isn't necessarily a bad program. But I doubt they will make very much noise in the AAC.
Ultimately it is a good win because winning is ALWAYS better than losing. But when you look at the box score from this game (and yesterday) one would think LSU would be 2-0 in the tournament with two easy wins.
LSU shot 50% compared to NTU's 32%. That's a HUGE discrepancy. But, much as they did yesterday, they gave up a ton of 3's and second chance points (11 offensive rebounds for NTU to LSU's 6) to allow an opponent to stay in the game.
In two games LSU has shot (nearly) 52% from the field while their opponents have shot 36%. Yet, the point differential is +1 (LSU). It's really, really hard to maintain those shooting % night in and night out, so this team is going to HAVE to get much better on the defensive glass and getting teams off the 3 point line. Otherwise, most good offensive performances are going to be wasted.

Could care less about that pitiful organization in New Orleans

You can both be happy with the win and still recognize a HUGE issue. NTU shot 32%...and only lost by 4 to a team that shot 53%. The biggest reason was the volume of 3's. NTU made 12 (a season high). It was the same story yesterday with LSU significantly outshot Dayton (in FG%) but lost because they gave up a high volume of 3's and offensive rebounds.
I suspect once today's games are over LSU will close to, if not dead last in the nation in % of opponent's points from 3. They gave up 12 three's to Nichols. Some, myself included, said "Well, Nichols just had an uncharacteristically good night from deep". Then Dayton made 11 three's. Then NTU made 12. One game can be an anomaly. Three starts to become a trend.
It's unreasonable to expect LSU will continue to shoot this well from the field. No team can sustain that. At some point they MUST run teams off the 3 point line and get defensive rebounds. Dayton and NTU are not "bad" teams. But power conf. opponents are going to be much more physical inside.

I could only listen to the last 10 or so minutes of the radio broadcast today and John Brady was all over this. He always harps on FG% being the difference in games but he kept bringing up the 3 pt discrepancy today. That coupled with how we rebound I can tell he has no hope for this team.

Alt,
This is not directed at you. You're a very realistic fan and I do agree that we have to get better on the glass. I will say though, the more we abandon the 3 and take more high percentage shots, the more realistic shooting 50% a night becomes. The problem is, we keep teams in the game that shoot a high volume of 3's because they can shoot 30% and find themselves in the game still. Lots of adjustments to be made, but it's still very early in the year. No one should be throwing in the towel yet.

That said, a win is a win. Take it and improve. The deficiencies so far are pretty glaring and consistent only a few games into the season.

But we expected this team to have deficiencies because its not an uber talented bunch, so they are about as expected.

Talent wise we aren’t SEC title contenders but we certainly have the talent to do pretty well this year. The issues with our players, namely defending the perimeter and rebounding, are issues that are almost entirely coaching based.
The narrative that our players are untalented was true last year as besides KJ Williams, Derek Fountain, and Trae Hannibal, the transfers we had were just plain awful. Juice and Kendal Coleman might have been the worst players I’ve ever seen put on an LSU jersey.
This year, we have the talent to be a middle of the pack SEC team. We have the talent to compete for a NCAAT bid. The issue is that we have a coach that is clueless as to the strengths of his players, is clueless in making rotations, is unable to make in game adjustments, and is abysmal at being a motivator and a leader.
Our players are fine. We are not less talented than Dayton or Nicholls. We lost to them because we have abysmal coaching.

I reiterate my normal thoughts that November basketball is somewhat meaningless in terms of the overall season and also only the starting line for analytical metrics.
However, it's November for every team, so they're figuring themselves out as well. And the early metrics (we lost to two teams that were predicatively worse - one much worse in Nicholls State - and beat two teams that were very predicatively worse) doesn't bode well as a carryover from last season which had the same tendency.

Further, you don't have to jump up and down like performance artist Will Wade to motivate and lead a team. This team has weaknesses that the team will have to work hard on to address before SEC play starts. But the program is developing behind young guys like Williams, Reed, and Ward, and will continue to grow next year with CG3 and RM3 plus other new names.

He played Mwani more today which is good. That is one adjustment that I approve of. We still run a switch everything defense and poor switches have cost us 2 games. Adjustments still need to be made, even if we took a small step in the right direction today.
I don't have a personal dog in the race with Chest. I just think he should play because I think he would contribute to wins. At the end of the day all that matters is winning. Losing close games isn't growth. Winning is. Corey gives us a better chance at doing that imo and that's why I want him to play. Same reason I champion for Mwani.
Clearly Hunter Dean is more of an impact player than Damian Collins. Great rotations by McMahon.
This is the same guy who insisted on running Cam Hayes at the wing

I agree, but I don't think being monotone is motivating to a bunch of young guys. That CEO monotone shtick only works if you're a winner.
