How old were you during that time period…
I’m 59 and the last 30 years were like a blur…

Because the country was completely different in 1996 than 20 years prior.
Things haven’t changed much since 2003.

It actually was a longer span of time. The global warming the boomers caused makes the earth spin faster

Same age as you. I still remember walking into the Astrodome in '75 and seeing those glorious uniforms and that scoreboard. We did have the excesses we have now, but we had a richer life experience. Simple times, long gone but not forgotten.

If you’re in your mid 50’s yes I can see this. If you’re in your early to mid forties, you’re going to probably say the 90’s is the best decade ever.

I would say not only as you get older time flies, but times in the 70s and 80s were SO much simpler than the 2000s. It's like time is plotted on logarithmic paper. It's compressed. Seems much faster paced.

You're just thinking of childhood. The only way the 70's could seem like "simple times" is if you weren't paying attention to politics, social unrest, or the economy. Domestic terrorism in this country peaked in the 1970s. Go read about the bombings in the 70s.
Remember sitting in gas lines on your day? Good times.

When I was seven the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas was the longest year of my life.

Competes hard with the 80's as the worst decade of cars ever.

Wasn't born until 1993, just speaking historically.

I thought I made that point.

I remember the even/odd plate gas lines. But we knew we had a unified country and that a man couldn't have a baby or breast feed.

Child's play compared to 9/11.

The saying that “days are long but years are fast” is really starting to hit home.
Now that I’m in my mid 40’s, time can slow down a bit, though I know it won’t

WW 2 is closer to the Civil War than it is to the present.

Also all of the drugs we did in the 80’s made time stand still.

That wasn't domestic terrorism.

But 2003 doesn't feel like it was very long ago?
This is important for people that don’t appreciate history.
I wonder how many people don’t realize that WWI and WWII were less than 20 years….just like 2003

I agree. We still had Vietnam, Watergate, etc. I still remember watching the news about Vietnam, evacuation of Saigon, etc. But it still was very different than today. People were nicer and not at a heightened state of anger like today. Go back another generation. Pearl Harbor, Normandy, Korea then Vietnam. And that generation will tell you times were simpler even though they might have been hard.

Weird things to think about…
Dazed and Confused was released in 1993 and was a period piece set in 1976, just 17 yrs before. Bell bottoms, old school cars, hippies. That’d be like a period piece being made today that’s set in 2006 as if it’s a total different time than today.
Pearl Jam’s Vs album is 30 yrs old. Thirty years before that (1963), the Beatles still didn’t even have a #1 record in the US.
Time is a weird thing…
