Might get moved to the Poli talk but this is more of a commentary on social media influence, not the politics of Osama. I also wanted to keep things kind of sane.

LINK

quote:

The late Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden’s famous “Letter to America,” released one year after the September 11, 2001 attacks, has gone viral on the social media platform TikTok, with thousands of Western users expressing sympathy with the ideas expressed by one of the worst mass murderers of the 21st century.

“In reading the letter, I could only think of this tweet that I saw the other day,” one user declared, quoting a post on X which appeared to justify the October 7 attack on Israel. “Under settler colonialism, any kind of resistance is branded as terrorist because the only acceptable violence is violence by the occupier.”

And now the part I strongly disagree with:

quote:

After the letter went viral on Wednesday, The Guardian newspaper removed it from its website.

Leave it up. Let people expose themselves for morons.

It's not a valid political opinion without sweeping generalizations.

I'm just impressed that someone finally understands the difference between Gen Z and Millennials

Colonialism is such woke crap. Colonialism developed and civilized most of the world. Those countries are far better off than they would have been on their own. They would still be lynching people in the streets and living in 3rd world conditions

Not all of them, but I don't think the headline implies that it's all of them. The large majority of the videos in response to the "letter to America" were from gen Z users though. And it was enough that some archive sites are crashing in response to the traffic once The Guardian took their copy down.

It is spreading like crazy.

The next generation is batshit crazy, and TikTok is largely responsible.

Over 30% of people of that age group get ALL news from TikTok.

It is purely a Chinese Psyop at this point (funnily enough, the Chinese segregate and have their own TikTok, where none of this is allowed).

UMMMMMMMMM.... A lot of them still do this.

I don't disagree with your position but to say that Colonialism has saved them all is just wrong. Look at Haiti and 85% of Africa.

Between Bill de Blasio and OBL, I would take OBL. He did less damage to NYC.

I don't think this is justification for attacking Israel but I do understand the concept and it's a concept we should all understand.

Any government, including our own can make terrorists out of its own people or terrorists out of others. We've done quite a bit of this in our Middle Eastern corporate wars.

Is this some kinda revisionist we colonized those places for their own good history?

Haha the entire point of colonialism was to exploit an area/it's resources for our own benefit.

There's nothing wrong with that. It is what it is. Every culture in every part of the world has participated in some form of it or were quickly wiped out

Muslims literally colonized the middle east after Jews and Christians lived there for centuries before.

As a gen Z there is like, a decent corner on tiktok that loves ol uncle Ted and makes post about him and stuff. I agree with him on alot but sending bombs wasn't the greatest course of action.

Do you think all those Africans are native to Haiti?

This is generally true.

With the exception of fanatic religiosity, there was very little altruism in colonization.
