I'm a commercial GC and just used Sketchup and my local library's 3D printer to manufacture some simple parts I needed for finishes and saved myself $300. Technology is amazing guys.

wasn't it recently discovered that some genius somewhere (NY?) was printing 3D guns and "returning" them in a weapons buyback program, to the tune of decent 5 figures?

My son does theater and I designed and built some props for them to use with a 3d printer. They really are amazing.

I just bought a Creality Ender SE. There was almost no setup involved and it prints perfectly. I was told yesterday they forgot some part to a costume. I designed it in fusion360 and was printing it 10 minutes later.

Some suppressor manufacturers are 3D printing titanium. Pretty cool.

A company called "Relativity Space" is 3D printing rockets so they can custom fit a rocket to deliver your desired payload to orbit. They have sent at least one to space so far and it held up to the desired pressures

I've been into the hobby from 2014 or so. I've had quite a few printers that I've built, but the last one I purchased was the Bambu Labs Carbon X1 and that thing is the fastest and most reliable printer I've owned. It also was the most expensive. Most of them were kits and were from $300 to $600. I don't think I could ever go back with because the speed difference in parts is crazy.

It's fun to design a little thing in Fusion 360 or Freecad like a replacement vent for a dryer and print it when done.

There is a lot of tinkering to get them set up for great prints. Although that new printer is the nearest thing to a plug and play experience.

Additive manufacturing covers just about everything now.

Where the technology is lacking (and opportunity exists) is with regard to print speed/size.

Once they solve for that, the economics will sort itself out.

There is a LOT of potential for disruption in manufacturing once they're able to print bigger and/or faster. Think micro-factories scattered all over cities. Tie it into inventory management systems and you reduce the need to hold much of anything in inventory.

I didn't know this was a thing. Now, that's a good way to spend some money for the public.

Was watching a 60 minutes and they are developing a robot to 3D print structures on the moon out of moon dust using lasers. Wild stuff.

I completed a project at a Federal 3D printing R&D laboratory in Idaho last year. The shite they were doing would boggle the mind...and they are actually building the printers as well as buying them off the shelf to retro-engineer. Bunch of guys in the mid to late 20s, none of whom had ever been laid probably, just absolutely ATE up with their work...it was kind of contagious to be honest. I spent way more time with them than was needed but the work they were doing is absolutely fascinating. They are literally printing 3 bedroom 2 bath homes....at scale but it can be done in actual size.

I have a site visit at another one in South Carolina sometime early next year. It is really amazing what they are doing. It seems kind of trite until you realize where it can lead...
