What’s going on? I thought NIL/Transfer Portal led to more parity.

What? No. Transfer Portal should lead to absolutely zero parity.

The argument was made that great players at big schools would transfer to smaller schools for more playing time

No. They just transfer to other bigger schools that offer them more money

site multiple examples and then apply it to the current CFB week.
I think that CFB has been mostly boring a lot like the NFL.

Other than Virginia beating North Carolina it’s been meh

Yes and no.
The gap between the top 5 and the top 15-20 has closed some but the problem is that the gap between the top 20 and mediocre power 5 has widened and you're far less likely to see some random team that finishes 8-5 have played a major spoiler.
Example - Teams like 2019 Arizona State are losing players to schools like LSU (Jayden Daniels) and those type of teams are no longer able to pull major upsets like they did that year against Oregon

The opposite.
Middle of the pack FBS schools can offer “walk ons” a full ride now. So kids who were locks for Richmond can now go to UVA for free and try their luck to become a role player.
Doesn’t seem like much, but there’s a huge trickle down effect.
Also, the best player at an FCS will transfer to an FBS. The best player at a D2 will transfer to an FCS and so on. The top schools are benefiting heavily

Not many big games this year. Lots of soft scheduling. Michigan literally just played its first legit opponent of the year. Outside of LSU, look at FSU’s schedule. Look at Texas’.

FSU and Washington were on the ropes today, but benefitted from some shite calls from the refs.

Just wait until colleges start sitting starters when the playoffs expands.
NFL lite is what the TV people want.

All the portal has done so far is speed up the velocity on rising a team’s floor… it doesn’t put teams over the top, at least not yet.

20 of the preseason top 25 is still in the top 25. That's kind of crazy

Exactly. Which allows LSU to maintain a spot toward the top instead of a “lesser” program potentially filling it.

It’s been a pretty boring year and there’s no signs that UGA won’t just cruise to another title

In effect, the top 20 teams or so are using the rest of college football as a farm system.

It will get interesting when small school with huge budgets like Liberty start buying NFL caliber teams.
