I am over the holidays. My family is going to just hang out and relax. No gifts, no decorations. We will work puzzles, play games, watch football. The most important thing is to enjoy the time together while my 80 year old parents are still with us.

I love the Holidays, but unfortunately there is a family issue developing this year, which does not directly involve me, but will be a complete drag on the family during the Holidays.

So, not really looking forward to them this year, and kind of ready for spring and longer days.

I love the holidays themselves. I like to decorate for Christmas and watch Christmas movies. I enjoying cooking for Thanksgiving and spending time with my Grandmother in particular who is 86. While one side of the family will celebrate Thanksgiving the Saturday after, I’ll get to cook for another part on Thanksgiving and I’m excited for that.

Unfortunately, my Grandfather, Brother, and Mom all passed between the week before Thanksgiving through the middle of December. And there’s a constant reminder of those losses for me in their absence. And this year just feels worse due to family things going on.

My Dad is also a terrible person who goes out of his way to try to make this time of year difficult and it has escalated in the three years since my Mom passed. I can’t go full no-contact because he is still invited to family events. But it drives my anxiety through the roof to deal with him and makes it just so uncomfortable.

I have mixed feelings now about the holidays. Both my parents died in the last few years - during COVID (not from COVID) and my brothers and I are trying to establish new traditions. And my MIL passed away this year too. So, it's been a little challenging. It was always so chaotic and we complained non-stop about it when they were here because they were divorced so we always had a lot going on going everywhere. But, to be honest I miss the heck out of my crazy Mom who actually attempted to ruin every holiday but, she was also a lot of fun. I realize now that your parents are the glue that brings family all together. I'm trying to be optimistic that we will figure it out but, it doesn't feel the same for sure. I love Christmas, I really do. Getting in the spirit has been tougher for sure. For those of you that still have your parents and they might drive you crazy, remember that they someday they won't be there. Not trying to be a bummer...

Who is giving you the "day off"?

why on the holidays is it only a day where you have to hang out with people you don't know.?

Because everybody gets divorced these days and brings their weird poorly adjusted step relations

I’m sorry that you have to deal with this. It sucks having a family member like this

Pretty good because I have decided to visit my children for the holidays instead of my parents and siblings.

These holidays make me sad, now. I loved celebrating them when I was a kid, and even more so when I was dating/married to my ex-wife. The holidays are really lonely now. This will probably be the worst run of holidays for me since Covid, when my family wouldn’t even allow me to attend.

I find myself getting irrationally pissed off with this bullshite trend of people putting up Christmas decos already. Those people are fricking losers. Just enjoy the moment. The shite goes by way too fast. I have no clue why people want to speed up time. Lack of perspective I guess....

Hate it too but for me it’s because I love Christmas and starting way too early would make it get old quick. By the time Christmas comes its like “no big deal, been looking at this shite for 2 months now.”
