LSU regularly got Bama into 3rd and 5+ yardage situations. They were talented enough to do their jobs on the first two downs, but consistently failed on 3rd and longs. That's coaching. You know what you were doing, saw how they were beating it, and never adjusted. That's coaching.

LSU is ranked 122 in 3rd down defense. That is second worst in America among all power conf. programs. And that includes games vs. Auburn and Army where they went a combined 7-23 on 3rd down. Without playing those two pitiful offenses it may not be hyperbole to say this year's LSU defense may be one of the worst in history in getting stops on 3rd down. They are the second to worst redzone defense in the country.

This defense doesn't have the talent, depth, experience to be great. No one is going to argue with you there. They probably don't have the talent, depth, experience to be "good". But in no world can you tell me they don't have the talent to at least be average (hell, even slightly below average). The absolutely frustrating part is that ALL this defense has to be is average.

Outside of 2019, no DC in LSU history has had a larger margin for error than House has had this year. And he has come woefully short of meeting that incredibly low bar.

I never thought there would come a day where a DC would completely torpedo a season moreso than Lou Tepper did in 1998. Sadly, I think that day has come.

last year, across the year, defense got a little better.

A&M and UGA hung 38 & 50 pts on us to close out the 2022 season. He gave up 28pts ppg in Power 5 games.

He's currently giving up 35pts ppg against P5 opponents in 2023. 47 pts ppg in games we've lost.

This team is easily 4-5 and fighting to be bowl eligible without JD5 putting up crazy numbers against Arkansas & Missouri.

My biggest gripe is there just doesn’t appear to be any player development

The problem is both the players on the field AND the playcalling. Not for nothing but using no spy on Milroe is about a stupid as it gets. Even if it failed you have to force a running QB to throw and worry about anything else after.

No.... LSU doesn't seem to play with much aggressiveness...
and yes, that can be due to Coaching Yes, tackling is terrible and he can improve that.

Yet you still followed all that up with justification as to why it might not be the DC’s fault

They didn't play bad against Bama....

Nevermind, you followed all that up with this dumbass statement. Remind me to never, ever read any future posts by you with any grain of seriousness.

Matt, you’re about to get a buyout and get paid to do nothing. That’s a dream come true. No need to go to tigerdroppings trying to save your job.

Yes the talent isn't up to par but it's inexcusable to not have a spy on Milroe.

It's inexcusable that the scheme isn't fitting the players

It inexcusable that Pete Jenkins had to be brought in to tell them the the d line shouldn't be lined up 5 yards off the ball.

Bad portal evaluations, defensive recruiting not on pace with the offense. That’s on House as well.

He’s fricking terrible. A Madden top 100 player could coach the defense better than this idiot.

looks like OP ran away and dodged the questions as usual.

step 1-come to rant to post BS.

step 2-start a thread

step 3- make ridiculous claims that cannot be supported
step-4 when questioned run away

Mrs. House, we get it! But he's just plain bad. Should have been fired already to give recruits and fan base a sense of hope. This delay in firing till end of season is costing us a ton of recruits in early signing period. Who wants to play for a coach as bad as this?

Media buzz about a top notch DC coming in to right the ship would work wonders for recruiting and fan base.

It isn't all House. But just from the outside looking in, it seems like he would rather field a crap defense and lose games than change what's not working.if you're an 8 won team, maybe that doesn't matter so much. A stagnant defense will get you home up for sale in BR.

So what? Even with that, we got Bama into 14 3rd down situations. And a good bit of those were over 3rd and 5. With an inaccurate QB, you should feast in those spots. Bama was 11/14 though. Turn that into 6/14 and you have a completely different game.

My point is, this bad player defense, that the OP is talking about, held Bama in check on first and second down a large portion of the game. Then we shite the bed on nearly every third down. The coaching is a huge issue.
