Who pays $2k for a fricking microwave?

Absolutely. This is exactly what I mentioned in another thread about everything we have now is designed to be disposable or on a “subscription.”

My Bosch dishwasher didn’t last 2 years before the wheels fell off of the basket and the top sprayer fell. I think people feel good paying top dollar for appliances that are no better than most others. I have a Samsung freezer that is less than 5 years old making snow in my freezer. It’s fulfilled with snow ice. I will call a repairman, but have an outdoor so no rush. And it still freezes things, but shouldn’t be producing snow all in my freezer.

the biggest scam running is “under counter” mini fridges and wine fridges.
$500-$1000 a pop and the reviews on literally every one are horrible. they all crap out in 3-5 years with Freon leaks or electrical issues and the cost to get someone out to repair it isn’t worth what one is new
bought a house with one of each and both of them have died within the 3 years of me living here. looking for replacements online and every review is the same. go on Facebook marketplace and there’s tons of “free” ones with every description “wine fridge, bought new 3 year ago. stopped cooling maybe you can fix it”
meanwhile the piece of crap dorm mini fridge has been at my grandparents house for as long as I have been alive so it’s at least over 30 years old and still ice cold with a solid frozen freezer space up top

The less sophisticated they are, the better.

My last GE microwave (and I hate Ge appliances) lasted 18 years. Died a few months ago.

Speed Queen and Whirlpool are what I have. The expensive brands all broke and I ain’t paying that again. Learned my lesson.

No tech likes working on Microwaves. So if it's anything besides the fuse or the diode most techs will say it's the magnetron and quote a really high price grab the service fee and go.
I just stopped taking microwave jobs period. But this is common.
Magnetron are actually not that expensive and aren't brand specific. You just need the right voltage.
Most use a capacitor and diode others a control board.
It's a lot of work to unmount a microwave then take off 16+ security torx bits.
The washer sounds like a scam too. The only repairs I think are that high are drum and or bearing replacement on front load machines. I charge 600 for that because I really don't want to do it and it'll be two hours of hell.

I think that's the point. Corps will make more in the long run with people balling at repair costs and buying the best new thing.

Samsung has a plant here outside of Greenville. They manufacture a shitload of major household appliances for other brands. Especially refrigerators and washers and dryers.

Last week top of the line Bocsht drawer type microwave,
Bosch is hardly top of the line.
There are good appliances out there; Sub-Zero, Wolf, Viking, Miele, Panasonic, Dacor...you are going to pay a lot more that anything you'll find in a big box store though.

Our fridge and dishwasher are Bosch, they've been great. Dishwasher is 12 years old now and all I had to do on it was a descaling treatment. Fridge we bought last year but it's been good so far.
