That's one way to look at it, sure. And I actually acknowledge there may be something to it, to some degree. Assuming it's SOLELY that is missing a much bigger picture of the battle actually being waged, though.

And it's f'n weird this is even a point of contention. Trump OnlyFans bristle at the idea that Trump is the leader of the party he has dominated for nearly a decade. I wonder why.
This is what happens when you paint people as nothing but the caricature you think they are. There's probably a projection component to it, if I had to guess.

So, in your eyes, he is not a Republican, but he is the leader of the Republican party?
Yes.
He's an opportunist and Manchurian Candidate.
There's a reason so many republicans battle him and it's not due to his "conservative traits".
He's at best a Clinton democrat.

I consider Trump the face of the R party. He’s destroying the competition in this primary. He’s going to be the R nominee. So yes, I don’t believe you can completely absolve him of all responsibility.
I would agree is the republicans adopted his platform.
He said we won Roe don’t touch abortion anymore. Republicans then ran on heartbeat bills, how is that a leader of the party?

What am I projecting?

The thing is, it's a mess largely due to Trump.
No
Trump exists as a political figure BECAUSE the party was a mess.
The Tea party movement was the first sign at an unhappiness with Republican leadership. The GOP didn’t listen. It made promises to that movement, but governed differently. And then it abused its power with Bush/Cheney and the MIC. The lack of consideration for the will of the voters was so great, that even after the debacle that led to Obama years, the GOP decided to promote another fricking Bush in 2016.
I guess you were asleep when all of that went down. Trump ran against the GOP establishment. And the GOPe is so unpopular among the voters, he won.
Since then, the party has fought against the will of the people consistently.
The Republican Party is dead. The ONLY thing going for it is Trump.
You either rebuild the Republican Party or it’s done. Those are the options.

So is he the leader of the party or not?
You seem to be arguing that he's not only the leader, but he's the only possible savior of the party.

We all know the answer. Some don’t or won’t admit it it but Abortion is the anchor issue sinking these candidates, not all but to many.. I’m anti abortion but we will never regain momentum on the issue if we keep losing and attacking the issue so angrily..
Time to rollback the issue and play the long game as we’ve gotten the victory we really wanted in pushing this back to the states.. need to fund candidates in split states to nuance the issue..

My conspiracy theory is that the republican party is being deliberately run into the ground because the leadership would rather do that than see another Trump presidency. Establishment republicans hate him with the fury of a thousand suns.
Posted on 11/8/23 at 12:21 pm to Gifman
Does it even make any sense at all to call that a "conspiracy theory" at this point?

When did conservatives become so achingly soft?
Trump showed himself to be a complete pussy during covid, everybody saw, every single day.
The real TDS are from his supporters who refuse to admit it. It was a catastrophe.

Completely agree with this. If you don’t think Trump is going to get clobbered next year just do us all a favor and go play in traffic.

I've made a point of not attacking pro-Trump influencers, especially ones who I've been friendly with in the past.
There's a number of reasons for this. For one, I strongly supported Trump in 2016 and 2020. I see Trump supporters as part of my "wing" of the party - the America First wing - even if I'm supporting a different candidate in this primary. And when the general comes around, we're all going to be back on the same team again.
For another, I think it's tacky.
I'm going to continue that here.
@SebGorka
, I have no interest in lobbing personal attacks at you. Even given your intemperate remarks towards me, I don't dislike you, personally.
My point - that Trump is going to be a convicted felon and will drag down the GOP next November - is descriptive. It's not normative. I don't want Trump convicted. He still has a substantial chance of being the nominee. I want Republicans to WIN. I want Democrats out of power. I want the lawfare to stop. Trump being convicted is bad for Republicans, and bad for the policy outcomes I want achieved.
But, winning requires grappling with reality, and the reality is that Trump is an anchor on the party, weighing it down. The last time we won an election was 2016 - when Trump was facing a hugely unpopular candidate WHO HAD HER OWN LEGAL PROBLEMS. Remember the emails? The October Surprise of Comey reopening the investigation? That stuff dragged Hillary down.
Well, we're about to see that dynamic, but ten times worse. The DC trial starts in March. Trump has no hope of an acquittal, not with a DC jury and a rabidly partisan judge. The appeals process won't proceed quickly enough for him to have any adverse trial rulings tossed out before Election Day.
So he's going to be a convicted felon by Election Day. Most likely by June. What does that actually mean, if he were to be the nominee?
Well, first and foremost, he could simply be incarcerated. Once he's convicted, Judge Chutkan - who hates him - could simply remand him into custody. Alternatively, if she felt like being generous (and why would she), she could simply restrict his travel pending sentencing.
No rallies. No GOTV efforts. Biden chose to run a basement campaign. Trump - in the best scenario! - will likely be forced to do so. And that's just the one case in DC! Trump will likely be sitting in a defendant's chair during most of the general election campaign.
What's the plan to win, given that reality? What's the plan to avoid a complete landslide? Is there one?
You criticize me for "acquiescing" to the judicial persecution of the President. That is wrong. I want the next Republican President to pardon Trump, and everyone else caught up in this ridiculous lawfare.
But to do that, we must *win*. And burying your head in the sand is no strategy at all.

people making definitive statements like this are morons. He is one of 45 men to ever be president and has the most votes for President in history. Definitively saying he can’t win is just silly.

Exactly. The country isn't going to do a 180 due to a SC decision.
The prog filth didn't get us to this point overnight. It's taken them decades.

I think he can win, and have posted 50 times in these threads that he should win provided he doesn't do a Kari Lake (a growing concern).
But the most votes thing is bloody weak. He has also had more votes against in history, and his votes against is a much larger number than his votes for.

So how are these republicans who lost who aren’t even close to MAGA blamed on Trump
The KY GOP candidate was endorsed by Trump

Cameron himself attributed his victory in Kentucky's Republican primary to the former president, exclaiming during his May victory speech that "the Trump culture of winning is alive and well in Kentucky.”

So it appears Trump once again endorsed/pushed a primary candidate that had little chance of winning the general?
Posted on 11/8/23 at 12:45 pm to BuckyCheese
Bucky- you know I love ya- but who among the “losing” candidates did Trump campaign for?
Youngkin was supposed to be the non-MAGA hope of the R party.
Cameron is only in politics because of Mitch McConnell. He got beat by a popular governor.
The Republican Party has no consistent messaging on abortion, which is and should remain a state issue to regulate as each state sees fit. They need to learn to talk about it in a way that doesn’t terrify women that they’re going to lose the right to take birth control pills or morning after pills in the event of rape.
This was the GOPe’s big change. Big Orange has bigger fish to fry at the moment.
