Nuss will be fine. Remember…these are still kids, not pro athletes. NFL backups are expected to come in and not skip a beat. Not college kids who rarely take snaps with the 1’s in practice. Denbrock needs two different mindsets when game planning. What works for JD likely won’t work for Nuss. That shot he threw to a covered Nabers was likely the result of the concepts ran on the play because JD usually scrambled in that situation. Keep your receivers moving and Nuss will find them like he did when Nabers dropped that pass at the end.

Yes. I think he can make a big jump by gettin all the #1 reps in spring and fall camp. Also, if he can take minimal classes and basically study football like JB and JD did, he will be fine.
The problem is that the offense is losing some big weapons besides a JD. Nuss can’t do anything about that.
Still think if 2024 is a bad year it will be more because of the defense than Nuss
ETA: I also think the offensive coaches know how to get him ready. BK said multiple times that the coaches layer out a plan for JD to improve and he embraced it and we see the results. If Nuss does the same, he will be more than fine.

He will need to be a bit like Burrow in just knowing the offense inside and out, studying, and making his pre-snap reads. He can't rely on his arm talent alone like Jamarcus did.
He will need to be able to this much better than JD5 since he doesn't have the speed to pick the first downs when the pocket collapses.
How much slower than Joey B is he?

There will be growing pains I’m sure the rant won’t be ready for, considering what we’re losing after this season
Nuss deserves his shot though
If we get some good quality in the portal (especially on defense and maybe a proven WR) I can see a range from 8-4 to 10-2 next year.

He’s not that good. We have a bunch of mouth breathers who think one half of garbage time is relevant, but every opportunity he’s had, he’s shown he’s not very good.

Can anybody explain to me what the hell is happening in this thread? Nuss didn’t drop his dot to get a 1st.
He had 10 pass attempts in a game where the defense knew he was going to pass because we were down 2 tds.

How ironic, the guy comes in cold versus an elite team and lights it up and his proponents go nuts, but when he looks ho hum in a similar situation they say it’s not fair to judge him by such a small sample.

I am supremely confident in Nuss. He will do some things that make you go wow, and some dumb stuff. But with the OL that he will have, there is no better time to be a less mobile QB. Denbrock will have to figure out some stuff, but I trust the offensive side.

He was, his NFL combine time was 4.67 which is good straight line speed, and as you noted, he could cut on a dime, spin out of corner blitzes, etc and keep his feet and make throws or pick up 1st downs with his feet.
He was in fact very athletic and had good pocket presence, quick release and good arm.

I never said you need a 1k yard rusher at qb. But you aren’t winning with a qb who doesn’t even have it in his arsenal
