You realize that so many of his former players would run through a brick wall for him? He was a man who could really challenge you and he did it on and off the court and he got results. 3 Natty, numerous All Americans and a 4 year graduation rate that approached 90%.

The General was not easily intimidated.

He was one of those if his players stuck with him, they’d be successful in life. Similar to Bear Bryant and the Junction Boys. Couldn’t have been the easiest guy to play for, but he seemed to appreciate them after their careers at IU were over. In todays world, the media would hate this guy like they do Donald Trump.

Initially, I fell for the ESPN programming, and hated the guy, but I read his autobiography, and grew to really like him, and respect him, and look up to him. God bless Coach Knight, and his family. The world lost a great one.

He ruled by intimidation. Won’t see that again. RIP.

Always wanted to know who the LSU fan was who got stuffed in a garbage can. Show yourself!

It's like you read my mind. Maybe you had supernatural powers all this time, but never realized it until now?

He’s the greatest college coach of all-time, I don’t think you can get better than him. He won consistently with a bunch of players who the top programs in the country wouldn’t touch with a 10 foot pole and beat those top programs on a consistent level. That’s because he was a coaching genius at the strategic level but also a master motivator, General Patton style. Rest easy, Coach, you deserve way more credit than you get.

Had a chance to see him/meet him at a coaching clinic right around 2001. He spoke for about 3 hours and then just sorta' hung around and talked for another hour or so. He was a wonderful storyteller. He talked about is wife, his family, and the toll that his coaching career took on all of them, as well as his memories (both good and bad) of many of the young men that played for him at Indiana.

I don't doubt that the guy was a tyrant, but on that night, he was incredibly gracious and polite to the mob of coaches that were there to see him. He commented about how at ease he was in that environment, being out of the public eye and away from the media. It's not often that you get to hang around a legend, and Bob Knight did not disappoint.

(Unlike Mike Krzyzewski, who was a colossal dick all 3 times I met him.)

Bob Knight and Denny Crum gone in the same year. Two of my favorites growing up in the 90's. Rest easy Coach Knight

Hard arse I don't mind. I think there are still some hard arse coaches out there. Frank Martin comes to mind.

But IMHO Knight was a bully and a tyrant away from the court as much if not more than on. Respect he was a great tactical - coach may he rest in peach.

The man lived most of his life as his own boss, not taking any S from anyone.

That’s a good life.

If anyone ever deserved to have "My Way" played at his funeral,it's Robert Montgomery Knight.
And the haters can kiss his arse.

He reminded me of my drill sergeants when I was in the Army, which makes sense as he cut his teeth as an Army coach. They could take that type of coaching, especially back in the 60s and 70s. Not everyone's going to understand or take to that type of discipline well, especially at civilian universities.
