The Red-bellied Woodpecker is an absolutely terrible name.
ETA: I want just ONE person to put forth the effort to figure out why the above-mentioned bird is inappropriately named. I bet no one will.

So they are digging through a bunch of old dead guys lives and if they did anything against THEIR modern stupid sensibilities, (and of COURSE they will) they will actively work to erase them from history.
Trust me, if these people had guns and power, they would be going around executing those they deemed guilty of wrongthink

These are the examples they gave:

The committee also proposes to change names considered derogatory or culturally inappropriate for three other birds: the flesh-footed shearwater; Eskimo curlew, and Inca dove.
quote:
Although the project was initiated in part "to address past wrongs" over links to historical figures known for their support of slavery or genocide of Indigenous peoples, the Society plans to remove all honorific human names.

Oh, was told about Rick Perry's west Texas family ranch name only a year or so ago. Hysterical. If you Google, did you know that?

I ran across this quote just a bit ago.
“An invented past can never be used. It cracks and crumbles under the pressures of life like clay.”
