Home Energy Assessment

I don't recall the O.P. but someone posted about your utility company offering free home energy assessments. Whoever you are I owe you a big thank you.
CLECO just sent their subcontractor out (after a 3 month wait) and we are astonished at the thoroughness, speed, and surgical approach these guys took.
Luckily we didn't have anything but a few minor touch ups for them to do. Our home is tight as can be on the energy efficiency front.
They will check everything and take care of repairs they can at no charge to the customer.
The guy showed me pictures of a few recent homes they were at and the repairs they found and took care of.
I highly recommend everyone contacting their utility company to schedule a weatherization assessment.
This board has been very helpful for me.

They did a very thorough job at my house. Replaced all inefficient bulbs with LED bulbs and found the trim on the inside of a closet, at the header, that was never installed. This closet is right next to the return air, so since 1996, the return air has been pulling attic air from that closet. I could not believe it and ashamed I never noticed the missing trim inside the closet. Other than that my home was well within the ideal range for efficiency.

Wonder if Entergy offers such a thing.

They do. I'm going to sign up for it soon

How did you set-up the assessment? Is this something you were able to do through your online account, had to call the utility company to scehdule?

Yes they did mine. Changed to LED light bulbs for free.

Is this just CLECO that does this?
Edit: They do.
Edit Edit: Looks like you have to be below the poverty level to qualify for this.

I think its income based for Entergy.

It has nothing to do with poverty - unless Entergy is that lame. It has to do with utility companies doing their best to avoid blackouts during those weird high use times - hot weather, ice storms, etc. I believe it may be federally mandated for them to offer this???
We were on about a 3 month wait time.
The duct sealing work they did today seems to already be making a difference in terms of house coolness.

Definitely not. They came to my house in BR which is not Bocage but definitely not income challenged and did the whole 9 yards for free. Blower door test helped me find some things to improve tightness. It’s a great program.

Dude in the older thread said they are installing new attic insulation for free? That can't be right...right????

This contradicts the Entergy website.
Schedule your home energy assessment
Is there a different program than the one I linked? Id like to do it myself.

I did the Entergy one, I am also not income strapped. I called, they asked a few questions and scheduled me. They did the blower test and tightened up some of duct work. Also filled in some gaps around pipes and other minor things. They did install an attic door cover, but put it in backwards. All in all it wasn't bad for the price of free. I will say the people Entergy uses is a company out of Lafayette, I can't remember the name right now.

quote:When I went to Entergy to sign up it sent me to a 4 question form and one of the questions asked about # of occupants in home and corresponding income.
Definitely not
I'm above the threshold and after submitting it said I'm not eligible.
No question asked about address so I don't see how it can be location based from where I am in LC compared to where you are in BR.
So I'd like to know where and how you got signed up.

I called the Entergy Solutions # 844-829-1300.
They asked me a few questions about the house and verified my info. I was told that someone would come out and inspect the house and make minor repairs to the ductwork, change out light bulbs to LED, change out shower heads, etc at no cost.
They will also do an energy assessment of the house. Someone will be calling me back to schedule it. I am over the income limit but they said that didn’t matter.
