If white people attended these events, they would still complain about it and call it cultural appropriation or gentrification.

Maybe I've missed it, but I haven't seen any black community leaders asking for whites to attend.
I imagine, hopefully I'm wrong, that most attendees at the Magic City Classic are perfectly fine with no white people in attendance.

I've lived here my whole life. I've been to Legion Field for many things. Not sure I've ever been to a Classic, but there's no way I'm ever going. The over-the-mountain communities exist for a reason. There's also a reason why Birmingham never could get the metro gov't implemented.

In the heyday of Grambling football in the late fifties, early sixties, a lot of white people attended their games, including my grandparents.

Took a friend to a UGA game and he couldn't understand why there were simply no black folks anywhere in sight (other than the field).

Anybody can buy tickets, college begs black students to apply.

I simply told my friend this isn't where they want to be.

The same goes for me and the classic.

I grew up close to Alabama A&M. Enjoyed hearing the band practice.

I don’t see how AL.com stays in business. I am baffled.

Someone e-mail the author this thread and see if he writes a column about it.

My first cousin (he's white) went to A&M on a full minority scholarship. He was their radio play-by-play guy for several years. I went to a couple of their games, but never the MCC.

Also, there is this.

I went to week one of this year's season and grabbed a SWAC matchup. This is Prairie View vs Texas Southern. Just look at these stats.

ESPN

Why the frick would anyone who has no ties to these schools go watch that shite?

Ask Ed Reed (from New Orleans) what he thinks about HBCU. He was originally hired to be the HC at Bethune-Cookman's HC. His rant that lead to him not getting a contract.

Youtube

That's just part of it. They hired him and it was as if they figured he has money he will spend it to get the program up to his standards (they thought they were going to get someone to do what Deion did at Jackson St. If Deion didn't have sons playing he wouldn't have put some of his own money and reached out to former team mates to ask help with some funding to improve the weight room and upgrade some equipment).

There are a few HBCUs that are worth going to, that actually provides a good education. Howard, Spelman, Winston-Salem State, and a few others (the ones that are private schools).

If HBCUs were so great they would be able to compete with the big schools in recruiting. At one point before blacks could go to white universities there were some really good teams. There were Grambling teams that would have beat the shite out of LSU.

Don't ever bitch about why people don't support something. You want more whites to go to an HBCU related event? Improve the quality, ensure safety.

If they did blacks would accuse them of cultural appropriation and ask why are they were there.

Not worth the risk of moral combat to watch a crappy football game.

I am white. I have attended the Magic City Classic. I haven’t attended again.

It was fun. No one bothered us. Just not my scene.

If he wasn't black, he wouldn't have anything to write about. Or a job.

I actually like that the writer seems to actually invite white people to attend instead of the usual exclusionary media tripe.

Ed Reed was never hired, never signed a contract not an agreement.
