Food for thought. Article from Jerusalem Post examines this question.

I am certainly not one to dare assume to know what goes on in the mind of the God I believe in, and consider it a bit arrogant to go down that path. Nevertheless, at the risk of being labeled an old fool, it is a challenge for me to believe that the series of “plagues” that have befallen the United States of America of late are not part of some heavenly master plan.

God isn’t. The Democrat party is because IT WAS HER TURN!

From the end of World War II and for 70 years thereafter, America “worked.” The triumph of democracy and freedom over fascism and national land grabs energized the American body politic to take responsibility and rebuild the world after the devastating losses in the war. The world was put back in order, nations devastated by battle were rebuilt (much of that through US programs like the Marshall Plan), while people felt secure enough to plan for careers, family, education and retirement.
America’s role as the world’s police officer, resentful as that made some nations feel (everyone remembers the term “ugly American”), kept the world in check. For sure there were devastating skirmishes (Korea, Vietnam, the Pol Pot regime in Cambodia, and Rwanda, to name a few), but a nuclear crisis never actually materialized, and the world overall was a relatively safe place.

However, 77 years after the end of the war, it all seems to be falling apart. Why? What happened? For sure, US foreign policy changed beginning in the Obama years, when it started to move away from the country’s self-defined role as the world’s police officer. Yes, countries do alter their foreign policies without their cultures going downhill. Yet over these past 13 years, with the advent of the smartphone and the exponential rise of social networking, hardly a day goes by that we don’t see some catastrophic event or trend that does not augur well for the continued success of the world’s greatest democracy.

If you're a person who believes in the new testament/Jesus as the messiah, then no he's not. He is allowing us to suffer the results and consequences of of our own actions. We have made this bed we're lying in.

Spend a little time reading what God did for punishment in the Bible and then read the headlines.

quote:
You must understand that in the last days there will come times of much trouble. 2 People will love themselves and money. They will have pride and tell of all the things they have done. They will speak against God. Children and young people will not obey their parents. People will not be thankful and they will not be holy. 3 They will not love each other. No one can get along with them. They will tell lies about others. They will not be able to keep from doing things they know they should not do. They will be wild and want to beat and hurt those who are good. 4 They will not stay true to their friends. They will act without thinking. They will think too much of themselves. They will love fun instead of loving God. 5 They will do things to make it look as if they are Christians. But they will not receive the power that is for a Christian. Keep away from such people.
6 These are the kind of people who go from house to house. They talk to foolish women who are loaded down with sins and all kinds of sinful desires. 7 Such women are always listening to new teaching. But they are never able to understand the truth. 8 Jannes and Jambres fought against Moses. So do these teachers fight against the truth today. Their minds think only of sinful things. They have turned against the Christian teaching. 9 They will not get very far. Their foolish teaching will be seen by everyone. That was the way it was with the two who worked against Moses.
2 Timothy 3:1-9
Sounds about right to me.

It's apples and oranges to compare old testament, or old covenant rules, to the new covenant. God, however, doesn't say he won't judge sin, he just has an appointed time to do so.

I suggest you read the Harbinger by Jonathan Cahn I would say yes.

Not in a direct way. God is simply allowing the corruption to spread through every major US institution without impeding the spread. God's allowing the consequences of man's decisions to run their course.
The US is destroying itself from within due to greed, thirst for power and sheer arrogance. When unrighteous and immoral people make up the majority of the power players in government and corporate America you get what we have....a corrupt Corporatocracy.

IMO God is not punishing anyone for anything (That will come later and it won't be punishment it will be judgement)
What's happening is people and nations are suffering from turning away from God, not in the sense that he's punishing them for doing so but when you turn from God you cast yourself to the mercy of Satan, who rules this world (for the time being).
In this world there will be suffering but be of good cheer, Jesus has over come this world. He is the way.

If he isn’t, it may be time to start.

This make the religious right scarier than the loony left. If one side is going to destroy America, it’ll be much more exciting to see the left do it.

Have you guys read the article? The author's conclusion seems to be that God might be punishing the USA because of our recent foreign policy, i.e. the US is retreating from its role as World Policeman.
The article asks the question: Given that the USA has retreated a bit from its Post WWII role of World Police, is God now punishing the USA?
The author seems to be implying that the USA's role in the world is to be God's Servant, and that role requires the USA to be a good Police Force for the World.
Isn't that the classic "Neo-Conservative" world view?

Why doesn’t God punish China or Russia then? That’s what I don’t understand. God is punishing us because we are “bad” or whatever now, but the Chinese and Russians have had us beat on that for a while. So why isn’t God punishing them, particularly the Chinese?
