The California exodus continues, new Census data released Thursday shows. In 2022, more than 817,000 people left the Golden State for somewhere else in the U.S.
About 475,000 people decided to move to California last year, meaning California suffered a net loss of around 342,000 to other U.S. states.
As in years prior, Texas was the No. 1 target for people fleeing California. About 102,000 ex-Californians sought greener – or more likely, cheaper – pastures in Texas last year. That’s a modest drop from 2021.
Other popular destinations for Californians to move were Arizona (74,157 people), Florida (50,701), Washington (49,968), Nevada (48,836) and Oregon (36,429).
“We are losing younger folks, and I think we will see people continuing to migrate where housing costs are lower,” Manuel Pastor, a professor of sociology and American Studies & Ethnicity at the University of Southern California, said in an interview with the Associated Press. “There are good jobs in California, but housing is incredibly expensive. It hurts young families, and it hurts immigrant families.”

In other news, the homeless and crack whore population of California is booming.

Locusts spreading their curse to better pastures.

Yet, when 2030 comes around the Census Bureau will, once again (whoopsies!), miscount and CA and NY will have congressional seats that they don't warrant.

We know several people who have fled California, and they are conservative and sane. Several have said that they didn't want their kids to think what was happening there was okay or normal.

All by design. The left has California locked up permanently. They need some of those voters to move into red/swing states.
Same thing with Illinois and New York

It's not 'by design.'. Voters aren't moving their families for the greater good of the Democratic Party. They're moving to enhance their quality of life.

CA and NY each lost a seat last census

I fully believe democrat politicians enact shitty economic policies in places like CA, IL, and NY with the goal of driving people to move. They've (correctly) determined that most of those people will continue to vote D because they don't vote with their wallets anymore.

quote:820k out of 40M is about 2%. And if you compare the overall net gain/loss of around 342,000, it's about 1% in one year. Now multiply that out by 10 years for the next census and it's about 10%. If nothing changes for that whole 10 years, that's a fairly significant population change.
In 2022, more than 817,000 people left the Golden State for somewhere else in the U.S.

40 million people reside in California. I wouldn’t exactly call a dip of 342k an exodus.

And then immediately voting for the same terrible policies that decreased their quality of life in the first place.

Not necessarily. 60% of people who moved to TX voted against Beto both times he ran for senator and then governor.
