ESPN Top 100 NBA players ranking for Pels
Posted on 10/10/23 at 10:31 am

100-51 dropped today
Val 99
Zion 57th
CJ 45
Ingram 27
Val 99
quote:
Swing skill: Valanciunas saw a significant drop in his minutes last season (30.3 to 24.9), but he remained one of the league's premier rebounders. He led all qualified players in rebound percentage (20.4%) and averaged 14.1 points and 10.2 rebounds last season -- the sixth time in NBA history a player averaged a double-double in under 25 minutes per game.
Zion 57th
quote:
One huge question for 2023-24: It has seemingly been a big question for Williamson throughout his career: Can he stay healthy? The Pelicans forward's drop in the rankings is directly tied to his games played. He played 29 games last season and has played more than 30 just once in his four-year career.
CJ 45
quote:
2022 NBArank: 45
Why he rose one spot: McCollum stays close to where he was a season ago simply because of the consistency he has shown throughout his NBA career. McCollum has averaged 20.0 PPG or more in eight consecutive seasons -- yet he hasn't been named an All-Star.
Why he could exceed this ranking: McCollum has had the longest offseason of his NBA career. For the first time, his team didn't make the playoffs. Both Pelicans executive David Griffin and coach Willie Green have talked about the outstanding shape McCollum has entered camp in.
Ingram 27
quote:
2022 NBArank: 29
Why he rose two spots: Despite his performance in the FIBA World Cup, there's some confidence that Ingram's NBA performance last season (24.7 points, 5.8 assists and 5.5 rebounds on .484/.390/.882 splits) will carry into the 2023-24 season. That player could be an All-NBA type if he stays on the court for more than 45 games like he did a season ago.
Why he could exceed his ranking: Here are the only players to put up the numbers Ingram did a season ago with the same shooting splits: Larry Bird (four times) and Stephen Curry. If Ingram stays healthy, he could return to being an All-Star like he was in 2019-20, his first season in New Orleans.

He's a top 15ish player if he ever stays healthy, but he never does, so he isn't

There is not 100 players better than Herb and Trey. I'm seeing guys like Sexton, Bobby Portis, and Jordan Clarkson on this list.

I thought we might see Trey in the 80-100 range.

I hope Zion or someone on the staff tapes the number 57 to his fricking locker so he sees it everyday.
Zion needs to be fricking pissed. I want 90s Jordan out of him. If he admires him so much, he'll use this as motivation. Take this shite personally.

Trey was under "10 players who could vault into next year's rankings"
quote:
The rising stars
Trey Murphy III, New Orleans Pelicans
Murphy might have made this year's list if not for meniscus surgery, which is expected to sideline him at least the first month of the regular season. Having bumped his scoring average from 5.4 PPG as a rookie to 14.5 in Year 2 while shooting 41% from 3-point range, Murphy is on a similar development track as Nets forward Cam Johnson, who made his NBArank debut this season.

The people listed above Herb and Trey who I would consider definitely worse than Herb and Trey in 2023.
97. Grant Williams
95. Jalen Williams
91. Josh Hart
82. Cam Johnson
81. Bobby Portis
80. Jalen Green
78. Scoot Henderson (who has never played an NBA game)
73. Chet Holmgren (who has never played an NBA game
71. RJ Barrett
66. Austin Reaves
62. Porzingas (Last year was the first time he's played 60 games since 2016.)

If (I know) Zion is healthy, he is top 15.

quote:The list is a joke. It is also silly to have rookies on there before they ever play a game. You know Wembanyana will be top 20 without ever stepping on the court. If based on potential, I get it. But to anoint already is a bit much.

That list is absolutely horrible.
I would add to this
Harrison Barnes
Tobias Harris
Draymond Green
None of them should be above Trey.
And Zion at 57!!!!???? What the frick they smoking?
I bet they have Wembanyama top 20 already also.

Not sure why you are rolling your eyes. Herb is an incredible defender, but Herb is just not a reliable offensive player.
Austin is incredibly good. Austin proved he is a player in playoff closing lineups. There are questions if Herb will be able to close games if his offense production remains dreadful.

95. Jalen Williams
OKC Jalen is better than Herb. Jalen shows legit all-star potential.
78. Scoot Henderson (who has never played an NBA game)
73. Chet Holmgren (who has never played an NBA game
Obviously, this is based off potential, but you are taking these two over Herb any day.
For the record, I absolutely love Herb, but there is something to be said about his incredible defense not being able to over shadow his offensive issues.

Most of those guys are easily better overall basketball players than Herb and Trey tbh
I won’t dive into it too hard as the poster before me is making some strong points already.

Not one player in the top 25.
Trey not being ranked is a joke.
