I've always had a lot of interest in World War 1 and this is giving off serious vibes of it. Russia/China/Iran have come out as the new Axis of Evil

This comment on the Jerusalem Post's coverage of the White House stating the Israeli's weren't responsible for the hospital bombing was too good not to share.
The irony dripping off of it is nothing short of amazing.

China is giving me Ottoman Empire / Austria-Hungary vibes right now.
They are staring down the barrel of demographic disasters, economic disasters, etc, and seem to think that a military victory would shore up their position.
If the idea is human wave attacks against other countries, they may succeed.
If the idea is to try and use naval and air power to pull off something like invading Taiwan,
I see it going VERY poorly for them unless they plan on bombing the shite out of it, which isn’t their intentions because they want it intact.
Taiwan isn’t going to roll over for them because they have seen what happened to Hong Kong and the agreements China made with the British for turnover. So they have no reason to surrender and are in a very defensible position as long as they can stay fed.

Yes. Although i would word it a bit differently. It may not be to shore up per se, but essentially this is the only window they have to accomplish what they’ve been trying to do for 50 years…settle the chinese civil war once and for all.

These are the types of things that make me legitimately nervous. This whole event - with the hospital bombing being the perfect example - is exposing just how much hate and confirmation bias is present. No amount of truth will change their minds. And that entire area is a powder keg of hate towards Israel.

If their plan is to wipe out the remainders of Chiang Kai Shek, they could do that if they wanted to.
If their plan is to take control of the island and all the industry within it? Not so much.
Getting large numbers of troops onto the island will be a problem. Only so many available docks, can’t paratroop in because Taiwan’s air defense will have a Turkey shoot, etc. And then you need to have logistical support once you make a foothold.
There is a reason amphibious invasions fail so often and D Day was the exception, not the rule.

A subtle little shift in wording by this outfit. Every bit of coverage they've given the hospital bombing from the moment the story broke has included "Israel" or "Israelis" strike. The omission is glaring, and a little surprising.

Yes. Iran planned the attack. And Iran and Russia are Allies. It’s a Risk board.

I hope you are wrong.
I'm usually not one for screaming "WORLD WAR III!" but like people have said multiple times in this threads, things have a June-July 1914 feel to them. If China throws their hat into the ring, I can then see the three separate conflicts merging into a world war, like how the European conflict merged with the Pacific/Jap-Sino conflict in World War II.
With weak leadership both here and in Europe on top of everything else going on, I can see China saying "well, why the hell not?"

They may not have the stomach but bad actors around the world may bring it upon us whether we like it or not

I agree with not having the stomach to fight it out.

I agree with this, too.
No matter how you slice it...in politics, economy, socially, or with war...we are in for tougher times, I believe.
I just hope we have at least some of the chutzpah our grandparents/great-grandparents had.

Agreed.
And part of why we are in this position is due to a weakening of the US military which, in turn, emboldened a number of bad actors.
At least one of those bad actors just got billions from us, too.

I can do the math on this one. But I’m not posting it after what I did yesterday.
We know Hamas, Et al . will get the money.

So, what Beltway insider's NGO is going to skim off $95million before it ever leaves DC?

Where is China going to hit?
Hitting Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan all have issues due to location / logistics
From land routes, they could easily do Mongolia or a bunch of other nobody countries but invading India or Russia would cause them problems.
