I've grown up with my dad telling me all about the 80's and 90's, and as I wasn't there I just have to take his word. Without any nostalgia, was it really that great?

Yep. The 90s were sick. The whole neighborhood of kids would get together and play football, roller hockey, trampoline wrestling, and other fun shite all the time.

It was pretty great.

I mean, take away the seemingly always impending Cold War threat propaganda, things were pretty awesome.

They were a wonderful time.

Music was great.

Film/TV were great.

Realitvely little economic strife.

It was also a perfect bridge between old and new technology.

Eta: I'm talking about the 90s

Just think about what life would be like without cell phones and internet. People actually interacted with one another, face to face. It was great.

Things would prob be better without social media.

I didnt have a cell phone and never had a shortage of things to do or people to meet up with.

People also would be where they said they would be.

But we also didnt have things like the air fryer.

I think the 70s was the perfect era to come of age. I graduated HS in the early 80s, just missed it.

Just like any decade, there were great things and bad things. Nostalgia covers a lot.

But yes, for me, I thought they were great. Actual great artistic music being made, concerts, almost no one had cell phones our age for most of the decade, NO CELL PHONE CAMERAS (huge), no social media.

The internet was new and it was the wild wild west.

People did shite outside. We could get away with a lot more.

The world wasn't anywhere close to as insane and connected as it is now.

Great time to be a kid. So much was made family friendly, and kids still largely played outside, but that was rapidly changing. This is the time that parents started getting progressively paranoid about kids getting kidnapped if left unattended and unsupervised. By the 2000’s, playing outside unsupervised was basically dead. Today, parents get arrested for letting their kids walk to a neighborhood park unattended.

Not a terrible time to be a teen or young adult as parents tracking cell phones and social media weren’t really a thing yet. As a result, friend groups still gathered regularly in designated public places. The music wasn’t the best, but it wasn’t terrible either. There was a little less freedom than the 70’s and 80’s as more things were censored or restricted to make things kid friendly, but nothing like what was coming.

80s, 90s (and 70s) music was the best. I've grown to believe there was not a lot of decent music produced after that.

Or at least that's what my playlist is like.
