The most recent example happened today, ironically

quote:

Indiana Hoosiers coach Tom Allen fired offensive coordinator Walt Bell on Sunday, less than 24 hours after yet another dismal offensive performance in Saturday’s 44-17 loss at unbeaten Maryland.

quote:

Allen said Rod Carey, the program’s quality control coach since 2022, will take over play-calling duties.

Indiana fires offensive coordinator following 27-point loss to unbeaten Maryland

Fire matt house, BK take control over defensive playcalling, and find a replacement asap. done

That’s also a last ditch effort by Tom Allen to save his job. Not exactly the same situation.

relinquishing Matt house from DC may be our last-ditch effort to save our defense. BK isn't on the hot seat but our defense has hit rock bottom and with matt house at the controls im sure their going to stay there

in hindsight, we should've fired Polian mid-season last year, but we thought they would get better. they never did. no point in praying that 50% of our performance gets better like we did last year with ST

Was watching the Iowa game and saw that the OC would get fired if he did not score 25ppg. Written in his contract. Thought that was interesting

DiNardo relieved our DC of his duties in-season in '97.

No he didn’t. Reese left after the season to go to UT partly because LSU wouldn’t pony up the dough to keep him and he thought he was limited at chances for an NC at LSU under DiNardo.

They didn’t always see eye to eye, but no. He wasn’t canned in season like you say.

This isn’t going to help Indiana. And your suggestion wouldn’t help LSU. It’s a desperation tactic. Sports at the level LSU competes is humbling. Instant gratification isn’t how to get it done. We almost win that game anyway. 5 more to go.

Reassign House to only coaching linebackers for the rest of the season. Try to pluck one of BAMA's (or another prominent defensive tream's) defensive "consultants" to call the defense the balance of the season. Pay for the consultant we "steal" using money from rich lawyer boosters.

He didn't and DiNardo replaced Reese with Lou Tepper. 97 was Dinardo's last winning season ever.

Not sure if you are trying to bolster or undermine the we need to fire the DC argument.

It had to be done. Everybody knew Carl Reese was in way over his head, and needed to give way for the more experienced coordinator Lou Tepper

That’s because the OC is the head coach’s son and that’s the only way he would ever fire him. He’s been terrible I am willing the bet the AD is the one that had that put in the contract. He has been terrible for a while now.

Indiana is no comparison to LSU in terms of status. This is what a desperate coach does in a poor program.
Just no.

I thought it was pretty well known that after the '97 OM loss, Reese lost some of his DC duties and Gerry was more hands-on. The article below corroborates this. How nuch did things change? Who knows. Maybe my term "relieved" is misleading.

They’re also 2-3 & essentially out of the Big Ten race being 0-2 in conference. He did him a favor before their upcoming game against Michigan.

House on the other hand, we won the SEC West last year after starting 4-2. If we dip below that, then he’s on the chopping block.

1) This is just a unfathomably stupid idea on its face, and

2) tremendous way to attract the next DC

This solves nothing. The biggest issues on our defense are DL play, tackling and secondary communication. Firing house solves absolutely none of those things.

DL play - BK brought in Jenkins to help
Tackling - he addressed how awful it was in his presser and can only assume it will be a main focus in practice
Secondary - hasn’t said anything publicly but he did challenge his DBs and I’m sure is putting that pressure on the DB coaches.

House is an LB coach anyway, which doesn’t solve any of this, not that they don’t have their own issues

House is not getting fired with more than half the season left.
