It is, but downtown gets outsized tax money from the outskirts up 400. There is a reason that the close suburbs keep trying to incorporate like St. George.

No respect for authority

For you non ATL peeps, Fulton county is shaped like a barbell, where there is a big locus in downtown ATL, a thin strip (I think six lanes wide) up GA 400 that leads to Alpharetta, almost 20 miles away. That's where the money in the county is, and where a lot of the corporate and non black/latino presence is.

There is a Baton Rouge / St. George situation going on right now. Buckhead, with some of the richest zip codes in the country, has been trying to form its own city. The city of Atlanta is fighting like hell to keep that from happening.

I left in '08, and the level of corruption WRT to Hartsfield and ATL overall that was just shrugged off as inconsequential reminded me of Louisiana. Vote black, or vote nothing.

Racism (black vs. everyone else) was bad in LA, but ATL was just as bad, but there was more money involved (including Hartsfield contracts.) I have to say it, DeKalb and Fulton County can eat a dicke.
