Going to Vegas late January for a concert and bringing the family along for a long weekend

I'm really struggling with which strip hotel to pick. Would like to be able to walk everywhere

Mandalay Bay would be great in summer but this is January so that's out.
Mirage looked good initially but I found out the volcano will be down by then and they are doing major remodeling

Treasure Island seems like a good location, as does New York New York with the remodeled rooms

Bellagio and Venetian both seem very nice with good location. No clue about Caesar's or the smoke free MGM one.

Excalibur and Circus Circus look fun for kids but seem dumpy and locations are not great so I've ruled those out

Price not really a concern but not trying to go super baller with kids, that is a waste. It would help if MGM could fix their damn online booking site so I can actually see prices.

Any thoughts from Vegas visitors? Kids are 5 and 3

We went with our teenagers last year and stayed at Encore. It and Wyn were nice and a close walk to Venetian and some other cool things.

That being said, I would stay at Park MGM if we went back (we visited it while there). Due to its nearness to the convention center (and the various sports tournaments/competitions) happening in that area, there were a ton more teenagers and kids. It just seemed like a more "family" area than other places. A lot of the "classic" hotels like Circus Circus are absolutely disgusting dumps, as you noted.

If you and your kids don't enjoy cigarette smoke, then I can't recommend the Park MGM highly enough. Otherwise, every trip to the lobby and through the casino is going to involve smelling a lot of smoke (both tobacco and cannabis).

I took my kids to Vegas in December one year. They were 6 & 4. We stayed at New York New York. I highly recommend it.

We went to Blue Man Group, visited the M&M, Hershey, Coca Cola shops. We rode the Ferris Wheel. We visited most of the casinos on the strip to see the decorations etc. We spent some time in the Caesar's Forum. Rode to the top of the Eiffel Tower. We drove out to Hoover Dam one day.
We ate at the buffets, I remember the Caesar's breakfast buffet was great- the kids watched them make pancakes on a revolving griddle, and could get omelets made to order.

We had a great time, NYNY was great for us because it had an arcade, pizza joint, and was in a great location.

We took our 5 year old in July and we stayed at the Mandalay Bay, which was a blast, but you're correct it wouldn't be fun in the winter. I've never stayed, but we did spend quite a bit of time at the NY NY, because of the game area for kids and the Hershey's store, and our son loved it. It didn't seem run down like the Excalibur next door.

I really like excaliber for the price point. it is in a good location and you have easy access to new york new york and luxor. stay in the royal tower the rooms have been renovated recently. out of the lower end hotels it is the best value imo.

for instance I am going in december and price for NYNY is $1078 for 3 nights and excaliber is $395. Id rather have the extra $600 to spend and just walk over to new york new york... its like a 5-10 min walk. when i am in vegas I am always jumping around to different locations so as long as my room is decently clean I am good.

definitely dont stay at the circus circus. I did bring my daughter to the theme park there and it was fun but the casino and its patrons are pretty rough.

Excalibur was mostly kids and families when I stayed there, not fancy but calling it a dump is harsh.

A lot of kids in the pool areas
Two examples:
Saw a lot of kids at the Mirage
Not very many at ceasar's that I saw

I wouldn't bring a 3 year old to vegas but to each their own
It's way too much walking even to a pool area plus I would never bring a stroller to get them around

I’d airbnb away from the strip with a 5 and 3 year old.

An AirBNB in Vegas?

That sounds ridiculous.

If I were taking kids in the winter, I'd probably choose NYNY or Park MGM. They are located near a good many things the kids might like.

Excalibur is cheap and you generally get what you pay for. I've stayed there and it's not a dump, but it's not where I would ever choose to stay if I'm the one deciding.

Avoid Circus Circus as a place to stay at all costs. It's far away from everything and very dumpy.

NYNY is a great option. MGM Grand is also a good choice given its proximity to all of those choices and its Cirque show (Ka) is great.

Planet Hollywood just redid their rooms as well. Could be a good choice since it’s close to NYNY and smack dab in the middle of the Miracle Mile shops.

Just stayed at Venetian. While the rooms, shopping and dining are epic, there’s just not a lot for kids.

Not if you want to shield your small children from as much of the Vegas trash as possible

In what world is Park MGM near the convention center?

Check out Travel Ruby

She has been to them all it seems.

The Superbowl will be there February 11. I bet there will be a lot of activity gearing up for that.

Luxor next door is cheaper.
