Back in 2019, while promoting his film The Irishman, Martin Scorsese triggered many people on this board and around the globe when he said that comic book movies weren't real cinema. Fast forward to 2023 and Scorsese is at it again.

Doing an interview with GQ, Scorsese said that filmmakers such as Christopher Nolan need to lead the way in saving cinema from comic book and franchise culture.

I like Scorsese, but idk. feels a little high and mighty for a guy who’s made like 15 mob movies.

I will take 15 Scorsese mob movies over any comic book/superhero movie any day of the week.

Friend,

While not a big fan of Scorsese and the filth he directs, he is absolutely correct. Comic book movies and most franchises are lazy and lack imagination. But they appear, sadly, to be what the uncultured masses want. There are plenty of good non comic book movies, but I wish talk about the comic book stuff was relegated to a children’s forum where it belongs.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

It is the place where people who love to talk about media they hate watch or media they hate without seeing it come to talk about said media.

To the OP: Marty S is not the worst gatekeeper in the world but sometimes people just want to be entertained. Hell, back in the day one a big impetus to go to the movies was because the theater had A/C and they wanted to get away from their lives for 90-120 minutes. We don't always want to go on a roller coaster of real emotion or take a trip in search of enlightenment.

I will admit to liking comic book movies but I am also getting very burned out on them. They have become ubiquitous and it is near work to keep up with the various universes well enough to enjoy the movies fully. I am beginning to think I would enjoy fantasy movies better if they didn't have half a century of cannon that I "need" to know and needs to be adhered to in order for everyone not to bitch. I am beginning to appreciate self-contained movies more than I ever had.

Judging by the downvotes on this thread Scorsese is being proved right. Superhero movies are without a doubt the worst genre of film.

Mean Streets
Goodfellas
Casino
The Departed
The Irishman

5 movies out of 26 are gangster movies. Go back to watching your retarded marvel movies, ya frickin retard!

I kid, I kid.

I think it's 5. 6 if you count gangs of new York, which you shouldn't.

That's 5 in 50 years.

Eta: sorry, didn't see peve's post. Average of one mob movie per decade still stands.

Films will be low budget affairs. Tech giants are the one whos funding blockbusters now a day. IN fact tech giants owns hollywood and they tell hollywood what to make.
