Actually, it takes no talent at all to compose and perform. When you want to sell your rap music you have to register with something like Ascap or BMI so no one steals your name. I saw the list of registered names. The ones starting with 'Lil....' were over 2,000 rappers. When you add all the rappers not named 'Lil....' less than 1% ever sell their stuff.

Okay, Zach, why don’t you give it a try and show us all how easy it is? Show us how completely talentless one can be to make a catchy beat and lyrics that hook the audience. It’s very easy to get a trademark and register with ASCAP. It’s not easy to make something remotely good.

I agree, but Jazz as a musical art form, even in its earliest years, has always had complexity that rap has never reached. That is the point. If anyone here has ever played in a big band, or tried improv, or even listed to rhythm changes, then you know how much more jazz is.
As for metal and the screaming shouting, yeah that suck too.
It's an overused gimmick.

Then you’d be shocked at the language used to describe jazz back in the day by the broadway and vaudeville musicians. They were called the same stuff by the classical musicians. There’s nothing new under the sun.
Trends come in music. They get the same sorts of insults thrown at them by the olde guard, and then they replace the olde guard and hurl the same insults at the next trend that comes to replace them.

I think it was “Blow Fly” or “Curtis Blow” who said
“Curse words, curse words,
Let them flow…”

If I insinuated The Rolling Stones were poetic geniuses that’s my bad. I think they are terrible. Their awfulness doesn’t make 99% of rap any better.

Why He Can’t Stand Rap Music
I don't care for rap either, but it is music. I don't need some geriatric dressing like he's 20 to tell me otherwise.

It’s not my cup o’ tea but rap is a form of music.
My biggest gripe is it’s never really “seen it’s day” and come and gone to make way for something new. And it’s not because it’s such a superior art form.
It’s because like lots of other things, creativity has largely disappeared.
Everything is controlled by mega-Corporations and they’ll just keep repackaging and recycling what has already sold in the past.
Although the changes kind of blended/eventually took over into the next decade (instead of a hard stop), I think most can identify musical eras like the 60s sound, the 70s, the 80s, grunge in the 90s, etc.
Seems like in these recent decades there stopped being anything “new” that took over.
It’s just the same stuff over and over anymore. There’s still some good songs that come out but there’s no longer that artist or group that ushers in a new era.

Now you're switching definitions. Your post said it's hard to 'compose and perform'. It's not. That's why there are thousands of rappers registered who have composed and performed but you've never heard of them because they don't make money.
Now, you're changing your definition to 'something remotely good.' That has no bright line. The best shot at one would be 'something that makes lots of money.' That's not very good either because music styles that totally suck (like disco) made a lot of money.

And he further added, “get off my lawn!”

Okay, then try and make something passable (in tune, more than one instrument track, in tempo) that’s mediocre. I’d like to hear you even do that.
Making anything is easy if you call it art and give no thought to quality.

100% correct
It's not music.
F-bombs and n-words. I honestly don't understand how anyone can enjoy this music when every song is just a different ditty with the same words and theme. Forget that it's crap, it's also boring and I feel dumber for having listened.

OK, so your standard here for quality is this:
'If you can't rap then you can't say rap sucks.'
By this logic (or lack thereof) it means I cannot say that the 1959 movie 'Wasp Woman' sucks because I cannot produce a movie.
Don't you feel incredibly stupid?

No, you can say it sucks. In fact, feel encouraged to do so. You just cannot say it requires no talent to produce or that it isn’t music. I can rip on JJ Abrams and Rian Johnson for their shitty Star Wars scripts, but unless I actually produce a screen play that doesn’t completely suck, I can’t say that it takes zero skill or talent to write a screen play better than them. Their screen play was bad, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy to write something better. We just expect more from people who are supposed to be skilled at their trade. I won’t say the Star Wars sequels aren’t movies, they’re just bad movies. Writing screenplays is hard. JJ and RJ just make it look like anyone can do it.
For example, it’s not easy for an average joe off the street to complete a 10 yard out route to the sideline in an NFL 2 minute drill against a soft zone coverage. However, we expect a starting NFL QB to be able to do so. It doesn’t take ZERO TALENT OR SKILL to do so, but if one wants to be a successful NFL QB, they better complete that pass or be out of a job.

1. I already explained that thousands of people have produced rap music that did not sell at all. IE, they did not make $2 off their efforts. That means talent is not required to produce music.
2. I didn't say 'it isn't music.' That was in the OP, not my posts. I said it sucks.
But if you want to continue making yourself look stupid that is your right (and my amusement till 4 pm).
