What is the opinion on him through his first 3 games?
Dude doesn't have much hustle.
Looks like he is just moping around to me. No real burst or suddenness at all.

He is good, just has not taken that Glen dorsey elite step yet. He gets a lot of double teams.

Needs to come off the bench and let the 100% healthy guys start the game until he is 100%.

Extremely disappointing. I can’t recall a single play he’s made all year. Granted, he faces many double teams. This defense needs him to play like an all American. Maason has to step up

I don’t think he has fully recovered from his injury.

He looked pudgy and out of shape from where I could see him last night. A big boy like that probably hard to get back in playing shape after injury

Out of HS, I had a ton of excitement about the kid, so much so I thought he'd become our next Dorsey... well, to say I was wrong is an understatement...

Jordan Jefferson needs to start and get the majority of the snaps. Smith can be rotated in when JJ needs a break and maybe we'd see improvements from Smith with eventually getting back to game speed (and maybe he'd have more of a burst playing sparingly rather than wearing down so fast playing the majority of the game when he is not really ready to do that).

So I blame the coaches there. I'm just curious as to what they are seeing in practice. Is Smith really dominant in practice or what are they seeing to justify starting him, etc.?

Right now his is a good depth player. But he’s not anywhere close to as dominant and he was hyped to be and shouldn’t be starting over Jefferson. I was at the game. He’s often the last player off the ground, always requiring someone to help him up.

At this rate we should get him for another year.

Well my opinion is that he wouldn't have helped us much in the FSU game and we still would have lost even if he played. I hope he can mature by the end of the season and be a great player that he projects to be.

He’s playing out of position which isn’t his fault. He will be a big end in the 3-4 at the next level, not an inside player. His game is quickness and length, not leverage and brute strength

He gets doubles a lot by interior OLs and he’s realistically not going to win that very often. Add to it that he’s shaking off some rust and probably still not 100% on that ankle

Kid from West Virginia is better.

Honestly, Maason Smith has been a disappointment.

We can pretend otherwise.
