CNN Gets Roasted for Absurd Chyron Warning Constitution is 'Outdated, Puts Democracy at Risk'

Poll: Do you think the Constitution of the United States is outdated and puts democracy at risk?

The few remaining viewers of CNN got a remarkable dose of news on Saturday. Just in time for Constitution Day, CNN's dwindling audience learned that the Consitution of the United States -- the oldest written government charter in the world and the document that gave birth to the nation that has spread democracy around the globe -- has become so "outdated" that it's actually a "threat to democracy." Of course, that's democracy as CNN's scholars understand it. And you can't spell ignorance without "C-N-N." The word came on "Newsroom," anchored by former CNN White House correspondent Jim Acosta. Acosta interviewed two Harvard professors of government who are of the opinion that the grand system of compromise, checks and balances devised by the Founders in Philadelphia in 1787 is as obsolete as the quill pens they used to write it down. Accompanying the interview was a chyron at the bottom of the screen declaring (in all caps): "Scholars Warn Outdated Constitution Has Put Democracy At Risk." And it was scorched on social media:

The Constitution was drafted with the understanding that “democracy” is an awful way to govern.

So does voting from what I hear. We need to streamline our democracy. Do away with the pesky people getting in the way and gumming up our liberty.

Conservatives are finally coming around to the fact that constitutions mean jack shite and won’t save you. The constitution has successfully allowed the formation of the largest and most powerful government in human history.

The Constitution IS outdated. It is absurd to claim it's a "threat" to Democracy.

We shouldn't be proud of the fact it's "the oldest written government charter in the world." Thomas Jefferson earned of considering the Constitution a sacred document, and recommended a new Constitutional Convention every 19 or 20 years.

I think every 20 years is a bit much, but surely our Constitution could use updating to match the modern world. Wouldn't it be nice to rarely have to argue over Constitutional interpretation? Every controversial issue could be debated, compromised, and spelled out directly in a new Constitution.

These idiots would probably be surprised to learn the the word "democracy" does not appear in the Declaration of Independence nor the Constitution of the United States.

They're called Amendments, Jack.

They're just too hard for you to push your "common sense" agendas through that process, so you want the morons in Congress, that write multi-thousand page bills that nobody reads to do it? Or should Bill Gates re-write it? What about cabinet secretaries? Who do you entrust with such a responsibility?

The legal notion that the Constitution is a “living” document is what imperils liberty and freedom. Bring back the Articles Of Confederation.

The Constitution is a threat to comfort and CDR, communism done right. It belongs to some old world dudes who believed in principles and morals, right and wrong, good and evil, equality and a host of other outdated ideals that are infringing on the expanse of our loving governance.

hell NO!!

What we don't need is the possibility of a bunch of nose-ringed pink haired Linda Has-A-Dicks gathering up millions of ballots in their spare time left over from burning police stations and robbing Walmarts colluding to make us up a brand new "constitutional RIGHT" by 'popular vote.'

It takes sound minded citizens with skin in the game to decide how to mold a set of rules that will be fair to their great-grandchildren --- NOT a brand spanking new set of rules to make every one else pay for your current misadventures.

What we have is as close to perfection as can be molded by human intellect. They even provided methods for updating it should the national sense of 'what is required' change. And changing the way we 'conduct our lives' should NEVER be left up to 'popular vote' = there needs to be an OVER=WHELMING majority of the citizenry to update common laws - and there should strict verification of the citizenry and qualifications of any participating.

Those constitutional 'interpretations' bother you because they pre-date the latest fad emerging from coke-headed university profs who couldn't pour piss out of a boot with the directions on the heel.

A New Constitution would be one, big, sweeping Amendment, Jack.

We would have to call a Constitutional Convention with representatives from every State to work towards a document the majority can support.

And then 3/4 of the States would have to ratify it for it to become our new Constitution. It isn't just something that would get shoved down our throats.

This will never happen.
