Truly a brilliant politician...and quite good with the ladies. Took my roommates girlfriend "duck hunting"...needless to say, the relationship ended up like some of the ducks they shot...

Yep. A friend told me that months after EWE got legalized gambling going in Lake Charles there followed a rash of failed businesses (14) as in bankrupt. The small business owners gambled away their life work.
As bad as that was it doesn't compare to that dreadful story of the elderly lady who gambled away their free and clear home. She couldn't stand the thought of telling her husband what she had done - so when he came home one day she shot and killed him - then killed herself.
Another story. A major auto manufacturing company wanted to build an auto assembly plant somewhere in the Deep South. One of the sites under consideration? The old naval airbase between Lafayette and New Iberia. So when the CEO flew in to inspect the facility Fast Eddie met him. EWE escorted the CEO around the facility. The CEO liked what he saw. When the CEO prepared to board his corporate jet EWE told him, "Now before you award this contract, what's in it for me?" The CEO got in his jet and left. The auto company awarded the contract to another state. All those good paying jobs......POOF!
IMO to this day the awful reputation Louisiana suffers is the result of that man's assorted nefarious activities.
Vote for the Crook, it's important - An EWE Bumper Sticker

Another that is not very flattering. Not my story but from someone with DIRECT knowledge. Chemical company builds a new plant in Louisiana. They go out for bids for grading and paving the parking lot. Edwards cronies put in the high bid and mention their connection. The company went with a lower bid. From that point forward they got hassled at every possible level by the state for their permitting. They had planned to build a second duplicate plant. Instead they built it in Oklahoma to avoid Edward's graft. Edwards has a lot to do with Louisiana being way behind Texas economically. The companies stopped putting up with his bullshite and went elsewhere.

Was contracting at the Oakdale FBOP work camp.
Saw him walk into the dorm to be with his fellow inmates.
Just another scumbag convict.

What was Marion Edwards role in the EWE empire?
(Met Marion once, seemed like a nice guy)

Bill Clinton came to BR for a campaign stop when the Jennifer Flowers stuff was coming to light. EWE picked him up at the airport and rode with him to the rally. Bill told EWE he didn’t know how to handle it. The press was reporting they had a torrid love affair for 6 years. EWE told him “Bill you can have a Torrid love affair for 6 weeks maybe even 6 months but no way can it last for 6 years”…deny it.

Many don’t understand this. The dude is great for stories but not great for Louisiana.

I don’t blame him one bit. Government shouldn’t govern based on people not being able to control themselves. We should have freedom. If someone gambles their money away, too bad. It’s not the government’s job to stop them.

EWE is Exhibit A of why Louisiana is such a shithole.

Good for you. The awful legacy of Fast Eddie lives on. Thank God for Oil, Gas and Chemical Refineries. But give it time our pal Potatus (i.e Joe Biden) is working on destroying Oil & Gas. Somehow I sense those two (EWE - Potatus) would have gotten along.
In the meantime gamble away pilgrim.

What does anything you said have to do with the gambling and small businesses gambling away their money? Cause that’s what I said I don’t blame him for.

Similar. A woman I worked with years ago is married to a cop. Believe he was a state trooper for some years. He worked his security as either an official capacity or just a second job. I’m not sure.
She hated him. Any day of the week. Any hour. He’d get a call. “He wants to gamble”. Off to Vegas. Or any other partying excuse and locale. She said the money for him was great but the whole young-ish couple with young kids thing made it tiresome.

He had large segments of Louisiana voters absolutely brainwashed.
—In ‘71 he ran and won as a reform candidate. Pretty funny
The state economy boomed in the 70s. People voted for him because things were good in LA back then.

I use to work with the lead witness in ewe criminal trial. Dudes name is in Edward’s autobiography like 12 times. His stories about wearing a wire were pretty wild

My dad was the senior petroleum engineer at a small company in Lafayette in the 80's. EWE dropped by one day to schmooze the company, and my dad had lunch with him and the other company higher ups.
He said EWE was the filthiest talking man he's ever met, even to this day, and he's been on tons of rigs around the world and seen some shite.
