Buzbee gave an hour-long closing for the defense.
It was savage.

jury instructions

I haven't followed this much. Impeachment is run through a jury? Where are they selected from?

It was. But I thought I understood from Patrick that the defense would have an extra 10mins AFTER the prosecution finished there part. I was wondering why the prosecution only went for 10 or so mins prior to the defense. Could the defense have left some to go back after them?

This has been an interesting thing to see as it is straight political. The Lt Governor (Patrick) is the judge, and the jury are State Senators, minus his wife, but they didn't remove how many they needed to get to "convict." There are 16 "charges" and they are voting on each individually. If just one of the 16 is "guilty" then he is impeached and out. They are also voting separately if he can run again for a state office, if he is impeached on anything.

There are a total of 31 Senators
19 Republicans and 12 Democrats
Remove one, his wife, so 30 total are voting
21 (2/3rds of 31) are needed for impeachment on any of the 16 charges for him to be out

Obviously all the 12 DEMS came in with "guilty" in there minds
So it looks like they need 9 of the remaining 18 repubs to go guilty on any to impeach, so "10 to acquit" (on each individually)

*Note...this is my understanding so may be off somewhere

I wonder if he must has someone on here as I like to think i can pat myself on the back for that line*, as I made the a similar comment yesterday about how I hope they get embarrassed enough that it sends them back to the NE.

Though I do hate that they didn't have the last say, but this has been so political that I'm not sure all minds haven't been made up coming in.

*I know I know he didn't grab it from me but I enjoyed hearing that one

This is a microcosm of what’s happening with Trump.

Political prosecutions (impeachments). Paxton should have had zero chance. But the case was so obviously made up and counter to the truth that it’s going to be hard for anyone to pretend otherwise.

A lot of people still don’t understand what’s going on within he Republican Party. When I mention it, Desantis supporters deny it.

There’s an absolute civil war going on. Pence referenced it last week. Romney this week. Busbee explained it. It’s the same people. Just in Texas.

frick anyone who supports the GOPe and Bush clan.

The jury is the Texas Senators the House voted to impeach now the Senators will decide guilty or innocent.

This went over my head. Pence and Romney are the GOPe enablers who are to blame for the "civil war". Albeit both act as if they are above the whole thing when if fact it's their feckless fence-walking that has let the Dem Fascists totally corrupt Institutional credibility and Equal Justice/Rule of Law.

I will never take anything those two say as honest in the least. Sanctimonious, high-minded hypocrites who cower in the face of 'civil war' for the soul of this Nation. Both are done. Good riddance.

In closing arguments, the House (prosecution) gets to open, then the defense goes next, and the House (who has the burden of proof beyond a reasonable doubt) has the right to close. This is how things are in any regular trial, especially a criminal one.

So when Buzbee stopped his closing argument, that was the end for their side.

That lawyer Buzbee is a big time Aggie alum and fan. I bet he probably does visit this site pretty often.
