As much as I hate the direction of NOLA, I do love concerts and NOLA still draws great acts quite often. Now when I go, I park in a garage, go to the show, and then go straight home.

We saw Jason Aldean last September in the smoothie king center. That was a big crowd.

Are they even touring any longer? They did a stint in Vegas a few years ago.

Have seen them in NOLA, Laffy, and Bay St Louis. All 20 years ago though.

I skip NOLA concerts for Houston to avoid broken windows as well as avoiding my own murder. Just me.

Likely more to do with proximity of these massive stadium tours. TS didn’t play NOLA this past year due to playing Houston. They can milk more ticket sales from same fans if the two locations are a year apart

Entirely incorrect. I love when people state things they pull out of their arse as fact.

If only there was a series of concerts, a festival if you will, that concentrates a couple hundred artist over two weeks.

If only.

those happened in the 90s too.

then on top of those festivals, multiple big names played their own shows throughout the year in NOLA.

I don't know if people are "skipping" NOLA, or if it's more that big concerts in general just don't happen at the same pace they once did.

in '93 alone, Paul McCartney, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Rush, Def Leppard all played in NOLA.
Plus Lollapalooza (no longer a traveling festival) had Alice In Chains and Rage Against the Machine.

that's just concerts that I attended in '93, so there were probably more than those that I'm not remembering.

7 big Name acts rolling through in less than a calendar year just doesn't happen anymore.

Because Don Fox (Beaver Productions) retired after 53 years as a concert promoter. His office was in Lakeview.

Ex B-I-L used to work for him.

You also get Drake, Beyoncé, and more who just came to New Orleans or will come soon.

Joe Rogan and Chappell sold out smoothie king not long ago. Rolling Stones and Elton John were at the Superdome.

Indie artists and national comedians play Mahalia Jackson. The old One Eyed Jacks is called something else now but still gets touring acts.

The idea that nothing comes to New Orleans anymore is just false. There’s less big ROCK bands coming to New Orleans because they’res fewer big rock acts touring period. Even then, Deftones, Smashing Pumpkins and Lana Del Rey played Champions Square relatively recently.

The hyperbole about everything New Orleans on this board is both sad and hilarious.

New orleans dosent need people wishing ill. It will die on the vine slowly with the incompetent leadership.
The virtue signaling and complete lack of policing are only the superficial appearances of failure.
A shrinking populace, a populace that is extremely important to the tax base.
The education system is abysmal and will not get better it will only get worse. The lack of accountability for the future residents education is the death nail. The fact that the only education comes from private or catholic schools along w/ 2 public schools. That is not sustainable and and the people with money are insulated, the middle class that struggle to put their children in private or catholic schools is shrinking and moving to vanilla white Mandeville. Where crime is zero and school is free. A 30 min commute is worth the quality of life change.
I go to the city for games or entertainment and head my happy arse back across the bridge.

This is really one of the major reasons but another major reason is that AEG and Livenation bought up all of the major touring acts globally making it extremely difficult for independent promoters to land big touring acts.

Livenation was competing with Beaver and Beaver's dominace forced them to open up their own regional headquarters in New Orleans. Micheal and Rob over at Livenation shut down their New Orleans regional headquarters in 2020 and they relocated the New Orleans region to Austin, Texas. Livenation has really focused on other markets which is why you are seeing a larger number of Tier 1B and Tier 2 musicians skipping the city.

AEG bought out Winter Circle Productions and the New Orleans office is now focused more on festival bookings across the Gulf Coast.

Don's retirement though was an enormous hit for the City and region.

Renovations to the Dome the last few years, likely has something to do with it. I know that was the reason Taylor Swift didn’t come last spring.
