Still is. We get some damn near every time we go. Some of the best onion rings I've ever had. When we first moved to Franklin, we lived in a house right around the corner, and I can still remember the good smell of that place as a child.

What’s there not to like?

I'd remove Patterson and replace with Centerville...

Patterson is not amazing , but doesnt deserve that disrespect to be included with the other two.

We used to go to Franklin on weekend nights and drive up and down the main drag and turn around at MCdonalds and do it again....ALL FKN NIGHT!! Sometimes we would get out and fight some of the Hanson boys or flirt with the Hanson girls.....good times

Cousins and then Harold's. Bring back the glory days! Nafta almost killed Franklin and Jeanerette and local politics completed the process.
And Sam Jones running for office is beyond ridiculous

What office? He was ousted because of term limits from District 50.

Sam's not a bad guy. He just knows to pander to those who keep him in office, and that just happens to be heavy left.

Willing to bet there is about 15 years of difference between anyone in this conversation with personal knowledge of Franklin.

Couldn’t agree more with what Kracka has said. Lived my childhood here until I was 22 moved to Broussard for 10 years then to Dallas for 5 years and now I’m back in the Franklin area to be back close to our family which has been great for us and our kids. Like most small towns in south Louisiana Franklin died 20 years ago. The new Mayor is doing good job of trying to bring the town back to the rich history (believe it or not) it once had but funding is always an issue. If you are from Franklin or the surrounding areas it’s not a bad place but moving here with no connections to the area it won’t have much to offer. My kids both adjusted well to the small town bs pretty well but it helped that my wife and I were from here and had friends with kids their ages at school. Franklin high has a new principal that I went to school with that is doing a great job of cleaning that school up. Hanson is your only private school option. The reality is it’s not a bad place to live but it’s also not a great place to live. With that you’ll get more bang for your buck with a house. My spread would be $700k in Broussard and way over a million in Dallas but we bought here in the $300’s so there’s a plus.
If you hunt, fish, like outdoor stuff it’s a good location but thanks to Dugas you’ll alway over pay for gas Franklin is consistently .30-.40 cents per gallon higher then NI.

Franklin, LA is shown from back in 1968 in a portion of Easy Rider, in an iconic montage set to Jimi Hendrix's If 6 was 9:

At about the 20 second mark, you can see the old courthouse with the new monstrosity going up behind it.
