Had to have it when I was a kid in the 70s
But it wasn’t just one shot
It was a series of shots in the stomach over several days
F that shite

Got it in 1982 as a kid. Got bit by a dog and they couldnt find the dog. It was the “newer” vax and so i didnt have to get the shots in the stomach.
I dont recall anything about it other than i hated shots like any other kid.

Rabies is 100% fatal if you don’t get the shots. Finish the shots and thank the ghost of Louis Pasteur.

Not anymore. The vaccines used to be I intraperitoneal (into the abdomen way deep). But now they are intramuscular.
If you have a known bite wound then they injecy the immunoglobulin to that spot. That can be painful depending on where it is.

Bump because I got the first bill and had a good laugh. Anyone want to guess how much a single vaccine dose and 1400 IU of immune globulin costs at the ER? $36k before insurance. Thankfully I'm only on the hook for about $1500 from that first visit. Looking like each subsequent shot will be about $500 out of pocket. Oh well. Beats getting rabies.
I have one more shot to go. The third one hit hard and had me down for the count over the weekend. Aches, spins, & nausea. They told me the second and third ones are usually the worst as far as immune responses go. Hoping the forth goes well this weekend.

I have had the 3 shot prophylactic doses due to potential job exposure.

Used to help setup mist nets to catch bats for surveys and monitoring. I never handled them because I wasn’t vaccinated. I believe it was about $2500 for the vaccination so I never pursued it. If I did it more often it might had been worth it.

UGA vet students have to get it, of course nobody's insurance covers it so they have a wink wink deal with some local docs to get them on the cheap.

Got the shots when I was 5 or 6. In the damn stomach. That was some bullshite but I'm alive.

Likely a dumb question but can that be filed under medical expense coverage with homeowners insurance? Surely medical but maybe??

I have never, but rabies can be fatal.
So yeah if i got bit by something that carries it, i would.
But also seems like 99% of rabies cases in humans comes from domestic dogs.

Heard it's the fricking worst, but no, never had it.
Question: Are you immune from rabies for a little while? Kind of like tetanus?

My moms uncle got rabies in the early 1900s in small town Louisiana working on their family farm. His brothers(one of them being my grandfather) smothered him with a pillow. Be thankful for the vaccine
Also, the vaccine sued to be administered through the belly button and was extremely painful. So once again, be thankful it’s evolved

Yes. Officially, I'm good for three years, but protocol would still call for a two-shot booster if I'm bitten again within those three years.
