Emery situation is a classic example of what's wrong with college football

I can honestly say that I'm a big Emery fan and I'm disappointed he won't be able to play Sunday, but I'm not surprised at all.
The reality is Emery is one of thousands of college players every year that go to college solely based on his athletic ability and don't have the educational foundation to succeed in college. I think it's safe to say Emery would not be walking on a college campus if he didn't have the ability to run the ball and help LSU win some games.
I'm not mad at Emery because this is systematic problem that has been swept under the rug for many, many years! Sadly, universities feel it's more important to win games and make a lot of money and nothing is going to change in the near future as long as the money train continues to deliver!

This has been going on since the late 70s. Marcus Dupree couldn't even read at a 4th grade level. Gary Anderson (Hog RB and TB Buccaneer) got a degree from Ark in the early 80s and admitted later he couldn't even read his first NFL contract.

Would have been much better off if not for the lack of accountability under the old staff. He dug his own hole and O's system of complete player independence meant nobody was around to put Emery in line.

Can't blame the college. There are rules in place. No doubt he gets as much help as is allowed. What should LSU do ? There isn't a semi pro league for highschoolers. If that was an option, then things could be different. The NFL could fund one, but it would cost them, and I doubt you would have owners in line to spend money that way.

I’m confused. Are you saying that it would be better if he didn’t have the opportunity to go to college? Would you rather him be bagging groceries or selling drugs?

The reality is he is playing football for a scholarship to go to school. If he has all this athletic ability then he was free to go take his chances in the NFL

You misspelled work ethic. There's like 2% of the population that is actually too dumb to succeed on the athlete track at a D1 university. And if you are truly that dumb, you don't understand a playbook either.

This is just such a nonsensical take. He should be thrilled to have the opportunity to go to school for educational opportunities, networking, and yes an NFL platform.
If you're saying he's too unprepared for coursework(or unintelligent, tough for me to tell OP's point), fault lies with: himself, his family, and his high school..in that order.

Dexter Manley is another player that couldn't even read or write, but he was a damn good at football so people turned a blind eye to the situation!
