Crazy Buffet on Oneal -- Review

So, I pick up my little girl, and we aren't having the family dinner thing until tonight. We're both starving, and we're passing one of the 100 signs they have posted in SBR, so I figured we'd try it out.
Upon entering (we were the only table there), we were seated, and my first impression was the usual fast food, buffet. They have sushi, hibachi (very small flat top grill they were sauteeing things on) along with the usual stuff. I wasn't brave or dumb enough to try the oysters on the half shell they had out, nor the sushi.
I got 2-3 small pieces of almost everything else, so I could have a little sample and see what was good.
NOTHING. I kid you not, only 2 things on my plate were average at best. The rest just plain sucked.
The fried rice was white rice, with little pieces of pineapple, cubed red bell pepper, and shrimp. The eggrolls tasted extremely off, tasted like the cabbage was soaked in sugar water before cooking, and the seseme chicken tasted like it was coated in honey and powdered sugar.
I can usually find at least a few things to fill up on, at any chinese buffet, no matter how bad the rest of the food is (i find most in br to be quite tasty), but this wasn't the case.
My daughter woudn't eat any of it, and wouldn't even drink the coca cola. (was turned down to be mostly syrup, i guess to get you to eat less).
I paid the bill, 18 bucks without tip, while they took the still full plates off the table, looked at my like i was crazy for not loving the food, and told me i should try the hibachi (which i got, and left all on the plate, or the sushi).
I left feeling utterly raped by this place, and headed across the street for some McDonald's chicken McNuggets (VERY much an upgrade from what I just tried to eat), so my stomach would stop eating itself.
I will never, ever, ever be going back. It's going to be CRAZY if this place makes it 1 day longer than the owners can afford to float expenses from their own pockets.

The only buffet I am willing to do anymore is a breakfast buffet. All others just don't seem to have anything that really fires me up.
However, I can put a good dent in a decent breakfast buffet!

Lunch Buffet at Thai Kitchen is pretty damn good. Its small, but they keep it fresh and its far better than any chinese buffet in town.

wow, you are normally pretty easy on restaurants. I will definitely never try this place.

Thanks for the review.
I had been waiting for opening of this place since I pass it daily. I was hoping it would be good because the other chinese place on O'Neal behind radio shack was also terrible. I just wanted some decent chinese food in that area. Looks like I will continue to drive by.
P.S. How is the chines place next to Albertsons on Geroge O'Neal?

There is no such thing as a good Chinese buffet. The nature of the cuisine makes it impossible to serve it hot and crispy from a steam table.
All this BS about Great Wall or Hunans being good is ridiculous, all Asian buffets are feed troughs.

Maybe the 12 hour gastrointestinal massacre this place gives you is their version of a "happy ending."

OK, I just went and tried this place for myself. And he wasn't joking-- this place was HORRIBLE! Their Mongolian grill was a joke! It consisted of shredded carrots, shredded celery, pork chunks, and squid. And on the actual buffet, there were also several squid dishes. I've never seen so many squid dishes on a buffet before. The best thing they had on the buffet was the almond cookies on the dessert bar. I'm not trying to be funny, either. I am serious! I will never go back to this place.

why did you go if you knew?????
BTW, squid cost about $.04 a pound

Some people will never understand this.

i actually really like some of the places with the Mongolian grill type setups. Noodles can sit just fine, and then the proteins/veggies are cooked to order when you give them to the cook.
the normal trough set up like at Great Wall is terrible.

The old Mandarin's, across from texas club, had the best mong grill and chinese buffet I've ever had, period. I'm glad he opened ichibans, but damn shame the food changed when he left Florida blvd.

THE WORST BUFFET in town! I made the mistake of taking the family before reading the reviews. Food was horrible - all chicken and poorly cooked shrimp dishes. 2 adult buffets and 2 kids - $54.00!!!

It can't possibly be worse than Dynasty in Prairieville.

That's all you needed to say.
I was there twice...my first and last time. I remember bay scallops sitting under the lamp, dried out beyond recognition.
