Which do you prefer?

Wife wants to replace the soft sided luggage we bought a thousand years ago. Been looking at hard sided, 3 piece sets by Travelers Choice, Samsonite, and other OT poor brands.

Any to avoid?

I have a soft side Travel Pro that’s been bullet proof for years and hundreds of flights.

No need for luggage when I travel. I simply shop when I land wherever I am going.

Same on the travel pro. I find hard sided too rigid for packing

I’ve gotten all my luggage on the side of the road or 2nd hand when my wife upgrades. I prefer soft because the hard sides seem to crack eventually and seem to be more prone to wheel issues. I’ve got a soft samsonite that must be about 20 years old, no issues.

I’ve got some OD green Travel Pro luggage and it’s hard sided and it’s great. I say it’s hard but it’s kinda in between.

Bought a set of hard sided Victorinox luggage about 20 years ago and they are still ticking. Of course the airport imbeciles have done their best to destroy them.

Briggs and Riley soft sided. They are really thick. The wheels and handles are tough as nails

Doesn’t matter what any of us or even you prefer.

Let your wife pick and go with the flow.

I have had the same Briggs and Riley bags for over 20 years and they have seen a TON of travel and they still keep going. Hard side has become the it thing but honestly, if I had to replace mine tomorrow it would be more B&R soft side. The only thing I would change is they would be spinners instead of 2 wheelers.

I flew once a week somewhere for 20 years and was confident that the airlines could destroy either.

My first hard sides would only last about 6 months and the soft sides eventually would be ripped up so I stopped spending much over a hundred bucks for them.

I have a soft Travel Pro wheeled carryon for 8-10yrs.

Their customer service is great as I had one of the wheels break about 1 year ago and they sent me a new one for free. It looks slightly different but works fine.

The suitcase looks well used but works fine.

I have a luggage works 22”stealth that I use for carry on. Damn thing is indestructible. If I’m checking bags, I use a hard sided Tumi. I switched to hard sided for checked after a liquid of some sort leaked onto, and through, a soft sided suit case.

I travel with a luggage works stealth roll aboard 22". It's the typical airline crew bag

It's supposed to be tough as nails, but that piece of shite has busted more zippers than my swiss gear carry on that I have left over from college.

I've heard good things about Briggs and Riley. Plan on upgrading to one once this piece of crap wears out.

I recently bought my wife a Tumi Alpha. Nice bag, but she hasn't had it long enough for me to see how it holds up.

Edit: to your point, my luggage works bag is a hard side, and I'm not impressed with how it holds up. I'm open to the idea of a soft side like the Briggs and Riley. Busted zippers piss me off, and I'm sick of milking my way through travel with them.

Our hard sided luggage gets scuffed and fricked by baggage crews. Our soft sided luggage never seems to get scuffed up.
