Dudley vs Ranch Fairy

Did anyone listen to this podcast? I generally like Dudley but I felt like he was flexing too hard on Troy, even if his message is right. I understand Dudley’s concern, people thinking they need 750 grain “adult arrows” to shoot pine goats. I think some of his content confuses new archers who absorb a lot of social media.
I have appreciated Dudley’s recent rants on telling people to shoot more instead of chasing meaningless gains by clocking arrows, trying to chase the optimal vane setup, etc. but I felt like he was just tongue lashing Troy for two hours in this one. Not a great look.

I listened to it.
Dudley is normally a humble guy but he has been on a campaign lately to stop some of the bad info out on the internet that is sometimes hurting guys accuracy. He probably knew he had to come in that podcast with a little more aggressive tone because RF can sometimes be a dismissive prick but couldn’t to someone like Dudley

RF has backed off a little on the massively heavy arrows for whitetail. Where he used to be in the 700 gr TAW range he now talks about being in the 500 grain range

I agree that he was flexing to hard on Troy, especially when he was harassing about his shooting. Thats just plain uncalled for. At the same time though I agree with what Dudley is preaching. The whole heavy arrow setup is just plain silly especially with whitetail.

Yeah I think he’s got some pent up anger with information that he feels is misleading. I was at the San Antonio tac and there were a lot of folks air mailing 600 plus grain arrows at 80 yards and I know he was there watching that happen.

Yeah I agree with the message, I just felt like he could’ve been more tactful in the podcast. Troy has some stuff to offer the industry I just think he needs to be more clear that his prescribed method is made for shooting 300 pound pigs at a known distance, sub 20 yards. Even for a monster pig, good arrow flight and good accuracy will trump extreme FOC and arrow weight.

Listening to it now so can't comment on the podcast just yet. However, I don't care for RF due to how hard he pushes the heavy arrow argument and anything other than his philosophy is wrong attitude. Maybe he's changed over the past couple years, but its been that long since I've watched much of anything with him in it. Especially for the guys just getting into bow hunting, his "my way is the only way" type attitude does not help anyone. I've been bowhunting for 20+ years and really believe that experience is the best teacher. Find what works for you and in your own scenarios.

Listening now too.
I’ve seen some of ranch fairy’s stuff but not Dudley.
I don’t know the X’s and O’s of either side but my impression is this Dudley guy is a condescending a hole

I need to listen to this one, but I like them both. You just have to take RF with a grain of salt. He's not preaching his method for throwing arrows 60-100 yard like you see on social media. Like another poster said, he is advocating for an ethical known yardage on an animal that you can make a good shot on. The FOC and added weight is a contigency factor. So, IF the uncontrollables happen you have some margin for error, because with an average bow hunter unlike Dudley there is so much error.

Dudley is a well know competition shooter and has been in the industry since his college years...I think. He also owns the Nock on brand, has a good instructional youtube page. Hes been sponsered by all the big names in the past. Hoyt, Mathews, PSE, etc.

Agreed. Fairy is shooting hogs at 20 yards, he could have done a better job of not being condescending to any other method. But this new TAC craze is promoting guys shooting targets at 70 yards and it’s hard for the same arrow to do both

This is where RF fricked up, that laugh he does is straight cringe. He came in hot going even further than Ashby and is too thin skinned. Instead of telling people to use common sense he got defensive and doubled down on shooting 700grs with giant windvane fixed blades at a 40lb draw weight to prove them all wrong, when the message didn’t need to be that polarizing. Adding an extra 75grs up front quieted and dampened my solocam a shite ton, and the increase in penetration was noticeable on foam targets. 450-480gr with FOC in the low teens and a reasonably sized broadhead is going to be a great sweet spot for most people, but it’s getting lost in the argument.

Social media turns the most innocent topics into total pissing contests.

Dudley seems like he was arguing for argument's sake. It's hard to compare making adjustments for target shooting at 90 meters with hunting out to no more than 50 yards (around the 2hr 10min mark). I pick this because that's what I typically hunt out to.

Did was a total arrogant a-hole to Troy. He even was fairly disrespectful of Iron Will Bill.

I’m sure he’s well known and probably knows his stuff, I’m just saying he comes off in that interview as a passive aggressive arrogant chode.
I’d rather someone just say “you’re wrong and here’s why” than passive aggressively patronize someone

I have watched all his videos. He always said to get to around 550

Yeah he claims they are friends but I felt like he was on the offense during that interview. Bill seems to be a phenomenal shot and a big advocate for bowhunting. Im surprised dudley wasn’t more respectful.
I didn’t like the whole nock on nation bs and the lime green marketing machine until I went to tac. I still don’t really but I appreciate Dudley a lot more. Dudley was on his feet all day, dark to dark, shooting with people, giving advice, helping people who dry fired, whatever. He just was completely available and approachable the whole time. That really shocked me and you can tell how much he cares about the sport.
I’m surprised at his demeanor in these last few pods even though I agree with the message.

folks who probly didn't hear the whole message and only processed 1/4 of what they did hear.

Dudley is a good dude. I randomly sent him some videos of myself shooting in the back yard with a specific form question, and he went back and forth with me on it giving advice/tips. Hard to hate on someone of that caliber actually replying to some random guy slinging arrows in his backyard. Again I didn't listen to the podcast so I can't speak to how he acted, but it sounds like he couldve presented better.
I need to do the San Antonio TAC next year.
