Not surprising locals have not been allowed to fight it, I don’t think they have regular firefighters in Beauregard parish. If they do, they are the vast minority. 98% of them are volunteers and are just rednecks that wanna put lights and sirens on their personal vehicles.
There are very specific guidelines that are followed when management of a fire is handed off to a different type of team. Each team specializes in different types of fire and approach. The reality is, the local VFD baws are just not experienced with handling events like this. The last thing you need when trying to control a wildfire is too many cooks in the kitchen. So, when management is passed from one type team to another duties change and command changes. VFDs are still used, but they take orders, not give them.

smoky in the distance N or Lake Chuck or could be haze
can barely see the Safest bridge in the world
I'd imaging the locals can smell the smoke pending wind direction
LC to fire location is 35-40 miles as the crow flies
closest weather live webcam I could find was at L'auberge

Hey, not everyone is from the kinda great, mediocre state of Louisiana. And most states don't call them "parishes".
If I tell you we have some shite going down in Fyffe, AL will you know which pari....err....county it is in? No Googles....just tell me.
ETA: In the interest of full disclosure, I forget which county Fyffe is in.

Local. Can confirm it’s bad. Asthma is not fun today.

I know there is numerous oil well sites out that way. Those tank batteries will not do well in wildfire conditions. The top of those tanks vent lots of vapors. Wishing you guys the best.

Merry Merryville is in Southwest Louisiana. About 20 miles from DeRidder and 5 or so from Texas border.

On radar it still looks like it hasn't crossed/jumped 110 yet. Looks like there are two areas burning, with two distinct signatures close together.
Wind has shifted again to back out of the SSW, which could help with keeping it from crossing the highway.

At this time we have fixed-wing planes dumping fire retardants and helicopters dumping water in an attempt to contain the wildfires in Merryville and Singer area. We are currently waiting on the Forestry for a briefing so we can further make our command decisions. It does appear that Merryville and Neal Oilfield Areas are no longer in the bullseye but we will continue the current evacuations we have in place.
From a police juror for the area
There are videos on Facebook of helicopters scooping water out of ponds and of planes dumping fire retardants.
The National Guard is also assisting.

Saw two rural fire district trucks go by my office at noon and they're still out there. An ambulance went that way a few minutes ago.

State line. What is it with all these border’s.? “State lines “
Not “state borders “. That’s stupid. State lines.
Hopefully you and your OCD can get over this.

Forestry has reported that approximately 60% of the fire has been contained at this time. The main effort continues to be the eastern edge of the area closest to LA Highway 27. We are continuing the voluntary evacuation order for the areas including the intersection of Highway 27 and 110 at Singer north to Otto Franklin Rd to include Dude Slaydon Loop and Grantham Rd. If you reside in this area either side of Hwy 27 remain vigilant of the situation and prepared to move if necessary if you have not left already. The fires that do remain are still intense.

Smoke from the fire has reached Lafayette.

Some idiot was arrested for trying to start another fire not far from this one

It is showing up less on radar now since it started showing up last night. Hopefully they're getting it knocked down as it approaches the highway.

I don't know if they can charge him with arson if a fire wasn't actually started, but they should be able to.
