After smoking about a pack a day, I quit cold turkey about 20 years ago. The first week is really rough, but it does get easier. I'd say it takes at least three months to fully kick the habit.
What kept me going is that I knew I wanted to quit and if I started back up again, I would have to relive that first week of quitting all over again.

I gave up smoking because my old neighbor who smoked scared the shite out of me one time when I picked up one of her lit cigarettes and took a puff. Millie, she had a gruff smokers voice and scared the 5 -6 year old me a lot.
Never had the desire to smoke because of that.

My only advice is that when you first quit, smoking is all you think about. You then rationalize with yourself that "if my life is reduced to constantly thinking about smoking while I'm trying to quit, then I'm gonna give up and smoke." I'm here to say that you will think less and less about smoking and you will eventually never think about smoking.
Also, get an app that adds the money you are saving. It must be at least $1,500 / year

I'm on 2 months, 4 days, and 3 hours. It gets easier, but I had to remove the things in my life that facilitated me smoking. Alcohol and caffeine had to go for me to be successful. I'm at the point where smellign a cig makes me sick

Zyn pouches. Give them a try.

Cold turkey when I turned 50 in 2002. Best thing I've done for myself as far as health related. No gums, no patches, etc. just refused to light one up.
I was smoking 1 1/2 packs a day most days and over 2 a day when out and about having a few drinks shooting pool or throwing darts with friends.
I've not put a cigarette near my mouth since I gave that last pack away that night.

I used Chantix 12ish years ago and haven't smoked (or dipped) since. I found it really effective and only used it for about a month.

You are on your way to being a permanent quitter. That was my first sign after a few months.

Nicotine is physically out of your system in 3 days. If you quit cold turkey, your home-free after 3 days. (I appropriately quit on Ash Wednesday 2022.)
Just don't surround yourself with humans or other triggers that you'll regret going ballistic on when they unknowingly annoy you, and subsequently make you want to smoke out of stress.
Take PTO/vacation days, turn off your phone and hide yourself in a room with a tv/computer. Drink low-calorie fluids often and don't relpace the hand-to-mouth motion with food or else you will blow-up bigly.

I quit smoking over 20 years ago or there about. I used the patch thing for a while. It worked. I’ll still enjoy a good cigar on occasion. But have no desire to smoke a cigarette.

Went cold turkey 8 years ago after smoking for 24 years. First couple of weeks were tough but then it got a lot easier.
Good luck to you.

Probably the most difficult thing I ever did. I had "quit" so many times before that could not be counted.

Chantix. I smoked for years, never thought I could quit. Less than 2 months on pills. Prayer helps too.
ETA: YOU CAN DO IT!

This month is 9 years for me. I prefer lozenges over the gum.

Yes, after having a heart attack August 28, 2001 at age 45.
The cardiologist said “Stop smoking and live or keep smoking and die young. The choice is yours.”
I found keeping my hands busy helped - playing guitar and pocket video games. Also keeping track of the money NOT spent on cigarettes is a huge motivator.
Believe me, if I can quit, anyone can quit. Hats off to you.

I quit about 10 years ago. If I hadn't I would be dead today. Best thing I ever did...

I smoked from 13-20. I decided I wanted to quit, so I just quit smoking. I didn't find the physical addiction difficult to get past at all, and that was out my system in a week or two. What was a challenge were the habits involved. At certain points of a drive home I would light up as well as after eating, with coffee and such. THOSE were tough, because I had to break the mental habits of those moments.
I did it though, because I didn't want to smoke anymore. It takes willpower and determination to just not do it.
I can promise you this: the time will come where you no longer even think about it (took me a few months), and then the time will come where just the smell of them will gross you out.
This is pretty much exactly my experience.
