Willie Roaf is the best Saint to put on the uniform up to now.

in 20 years, it will probably be Drew Brees

Drew Brees is the correct answer.

I remember when the Saints world thought Billy Kilmer was going to take the Saints to the Super Bowl. That didn't work out too well but it was fun while it lasted.

It's hard to deny Brees' greatness. We've been 1st, 3rd, and currently 1st in passing offense since he became our quarterback. He's had a few bad games but has generally been our most consistent player in the last 3 years.

I'm too young to know who Kilmer was, but during his 4 years with the Saints (67 - 71?), they were 12th, 14th, 4th, and 10th in passing offense. It sounds like you're trying to compare goodness with greatness.

my vote goes to Ricky, played no matter what, wired shut jaw and countless other problems, but was always suited up and ready to destroy on Sundays.

91, 92, and 93 Jackson lead the Saints to 2nd, 2nd, and 7th in total defense. Again I think Brees will pass everyone in time, but Jackson certainly has as strong a case as anyone for now.

Rickey Jackson, indeed.

Does Tommy Myers get honorable mention?

Not sure; I was young, but I always had a friend mention how good he was on a challenged team.

Drew Brees may set records and lead us to the Super Bowl. Nobody wants it more than I do.

But for me, Archie will always be Mr. Saint.

He is Mr. Saint but for all the wrong reasons. The media felt sorry for him.

He was a great player stuck on the worst NFL franchise of the past 50 years, with perhaps the most incompetent owner EVER. His teams NEVER had any defense, and only had decent offense for a handful of seasons. Archie never played on a .500 team -- yet he still managed to win the NFC player of the year award in 1978.

And he stayed loyal to the city.

I hope Drew leads us to 6 Super Bowl wins. I hope he makes the Hall of Fame. But he can never mean to the city what Archie Manning did, and does.

I understand that most posters here are far too young to have seen Archie play. And I understand the youthful need to tear down the previous generation's idols. But what Archie means to the Saints goes beyond football.

So let's cheer Drew Brees and our Saints on to the Super Bowl!!! But at the same time let's never forget the ol' redhead and what he means to the Saints, and to New Orleans.

To Tiger in Atl: I wasn't particularly comparing Kilmer to Brees as I was chiding all the fans who see the Saints thru black and gold sunglasses...me included at times. I've been cheering on the Saints since 1967...thru good and bad seasons...some filled with hope and aspiration...only to be disappointed yet another year, after year, after year. I've still got that glimmer of hope that maybe this will be the year for Brees and the Saints to go "Marching In..." to the Super Bowl. Geaux Saints!

right now it is Ricky J without a doubt. He was more dominant on a worse team than LT imo, AND he was on strong side, not weak side like LT. That means that the qb saw him coming everytime and still he was dominating. It's a straight robbery that he isnt in the HOF. If he wasn't such a screw up outside football, he'd be one of the most revered lb's of alltime i believe.

Drew Brees has a legitamate shot at being the best saint of all time. I'd rather have him back there than peyton manning and tom brady. His only knock is that he is short. Could you imagine if he was 6'5" like tom brady and peyton manning?

All I got to say is if he brings the saints to a SB, he will be a god amongst men in new orleans.

What are you talking about? Willie Roaf will be a first ballot unanimous Hall of Famer. If not, there better be an investigation.

Missed the 20 years part. In that case Brees has a great shot.
