Cot damn I swear we are going backwards in time. No one but rich people will be able to afford to fly just like the 1950s. This is ridiculous.

Good. Hope I don't have to see a pair of crocs or jean shorts in the airport ever again.

Well... I can handle $30 a ticket bump as long as it means fewer delays.
I mean .I would rather my pilot make $175k vs my UPS delivery driver

So everyone complains that salaries don’t match inflation..
then when a large group of professionals gets a substantial pay raise everyone complains…

Dont think it would be a big deal if inflation wasnt currently thru the roof. The average consumer is already getting hammered on everything price wise: food , energy ,gas etc.. Now more raises just means more price increases added to that. Two years ago no one would have complained.

Allegedly.

The average consumer
Do you understand that pilots are consumers too? And they have considerably more responsibility and experience than almost anyone on this board (ETA: Therefore, they should be paid far more than the average Joe)?

Two years ago we were sliding into a "non recession," recession, you just weren't paying much attention, apparently.

So…full disclosure. I’m a pilot for AA. Captain on the Airbus 320. This contract we voted on had the pay rates that Delta already have and what United will be voting on. The devil is in the details. Work rules never really got addressed. The Company basically threw the $$ to the pilot group hoping that would get the votes. It did..the market dictated it. We had nearly 13 years of mergers, bankruptcies and stagnant movement. We finally had the leverage with the pilot shortage. This is simply adjusting to the what the profession dictates. I’m grateful for the new pay rates but the work rules didn’t see much improvement.

What is meant by "work rules"?

Just in time to meet that 50% DEI quota

I read it’s a 46% raise, but how many years did it take them to achieve that? 6 years? 7? If your last pay raise was 7years ago, that 46% becomes reasonable. To top it off pilots are still paid less than they were over 20 years ago, pre-911 AND most lost their retirement.
BTW, United pilots will be voting on their tentative agreement soon and it when it gets ratified they’ll surpass AA pilots in wages.

You are correct with the percent of the raises. Our contract, along with Delta, has snap up clauses on pay. When United votes theirs in…Delta and American will “snap up” to the new pay rates

Airline travel today is like Walmart in the sky
Posted on 8/21/23 at 6:25 pm to Cosmo
I used to fly 2-3 times per year for work or vacation. I now fly as little as possible. The experience is terrible and the price is not reflective of the value.

Not ridiculous if people are willing to pay
