That's only one of a million reasons why you'd be justified in being against the actual idea. It's isn't even high speed rail or anything. It is the technology of yesteryear today!
Well thats why i used the fl example.
Im not on the trains are bad stance, just dont see this train working out well.

If someone hasn’t recovered from a storm almost 20 years ago…
Oh, never mind…it’s Louisiana.

it could keep $20.5 million of that money, as long as the state spent it to help people in parishes most impacted by the devastating 2005 storms.

The price tag of this boondoggle is actually no less than $250-300 million. That's what the "studies" said it would cost. Those studies were, of course out of date as soon as they were transmitted because of inflation. In fact, the estimate was for $80-100 million to retrofit or rebuild the Bonnet Carre portion of the line.
Realistically, the price tag will likely push $1 billion for a twice a day train that the operator doesn't even really want.

Different rail plan. Different study.
They will still have to rebuild a portion in Bonnet Carre, but a different portion.

After ‘unexpected’ $20M windfall, state to fund train from New Orleans to Baton Rouge
So with that $20m, you're about 1/20th of the way there.

I'm not talking about the to Mobile project, to be clear. This is for the interlink project that we're now throwing this money at.

$20M could fix a lot of roofs instead

They'll probably tint the windows on the train like CATS busses by year two so we don't see there's 6 people on it

whether it will win that grant or another $86 million federal grant to help upgrade the Bonnet Carre spillway bridge, which is currently limited to 10 mph speeds.
I don't understand this at all. They JUST rebuilt that bridge. It's now a concrete bridge. How TF does it have a 10mph speed limit????

I have a great idea. Put that money and any other money they were ever considering to use for this crap towards a new Miss River bridge in/near Baton Rouge.
That's if the policians/NIMBY folks could ever stop fighting over the location.

When folks get tired of begging and stealing in one city, they can hop on for a vacation crime tour in the other city. Fun!

This article itself tells you that this plan will cost $250-300 million or more. The $20 million is simply to help the state cover the cost of matching funds should it get the grant. They can't do it for that price, guaranteed. Also, the statements it could be up and running by 2025

Few things in play there... CSX won't play nice, Amtrak management is as bad as it gets, and the state is playing hardball on funding.
I'm of the minority who thinks the train will be a positive thing for the states involved.
