1. Created to distract
2. Travis truly lost his mind
3. Travis was programed to deliver information
4. Travis thought it was funny and is now really sad
5. Administration needed and excuse to send money to N. Korea at the behest of China.
6. He hated the USA and wanted to leave but now is really sad

i think it's pretty likely that this is actually the truth.
edit to clarify - i think it might be the truth that he believes he is facing hopeless racial discrimination in the army, not that he actually IS being discriminated against.

Wasn't he facing discipline and was sent stateside? Escaped his escort, joined a tour then walked into NK. Really the worst place he could go to escape that

CBSNews passed it off as factual last night. As if they actually want people to believe that N Korea is better alternative than the US due to racism. Sad thing is there’s probably a decent % of people that will hear that and think it’s true.
