I'm about to start this show for the first time as well. The amount of episodes is a little overwhelming though

Crazy how 20-30 episodes used to be the norm and the shows just went on forever.

Go say that on the PT and see what happens.
ETA: I agree with you. Isn’t it amazing to see how much political discourse has changed in this country. It was more civilized then IMO.

Why are you in a hurry? What else are you trying to get to?

22 episodes is still the norm on network TV.

It’s a television show

An I credible television show btw, I wish Josiah Bartlett could be President in real life.

Amazing how sharply that show fell apart when Sorkin left

Incredible show with some all time great writing.
The Newsroom on HBO is another great Sorkin show that is definitely worth watching. I actually like it a little better. It’s just a newsroom instead of the White House. Just as a disclaimer, it is a democratic leaning TV station (even though the main character is a republican). But it was still long enough ago that the parties weren’t quite as devicive as they are now.

They didn't hide who they thought the good guys were.

I’ve watched and rewatched 3-4 times. The first 4-5 seasons are EXCEPTIONAL. 6 & 7 are good, but not as great. It’s amazing how even almost 20 years later, politics is largely the same.
If you can find them, Sports Night and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip are also great Aaron Sorkin series. He quit both shows to focus on WW. I couldn’t get in to The Newsroom, though.

While the main characters are Democrats, the opposition Republican characters are not buffoons. For the most part, they are smart, capable and present their arguments well.
The couple of episodes where John Goodman plays the Speaker of the House and the campaign by Alan Alda, of all people, running for president as the Republican nominee, were very strong opposition characters.
