I do remember the pilot and first few episodes of Heroes being great TV. Then it went to shite.

The Shield's season 5 finale or the series finale. Take your pick.

Newhart - final episode
Greatest fake out in tv history.
Last Man Standing S7, E8 HR’s Rough n’ Stuff
just for laughs and Jay Leno fans
The Andy Griffith Show S4 E21 The Shoplifters
Don Knotts at his best! Young Clint Howard with a pretty clever cameo.
The Honeymooners S1 E3 The Golfer “hello, ball!”
Gosh, I miss this kind of comedy.

Depends on whether you are building a series or bringing it toward a conclusion.
Best establishing episodes I can remember for a series were the pilot of The Shield and the season 1 premiere (after the miniseries) of the new Battlestar Galactica.
The BSG episode, “33”, was named after the Cylons being able to home in on the fleet and attack them 33 minutes after every jump, to where everyone manning the ships is starting to go loopy from exhaustion.
The Shield? It sets up the precinct, the Strike Team, and what you think the premise of the show will be, then throws some of that right out the window by the end of the first episode.
Best episode which was just a great episode and had little to no impact on the series as a whole? Pine Barrens on The Sopranos.
Take a couple of guys who are marginally competent in their environment, put them where they are completely out of their depth, and hilarity ensues. “He said that guy was an interior decorator and killed 15 Czechoslovakians!”

Many of the one's mentioned are favorites of mine too. I can't come up with my absolute favorite because I'm in a fog when I come to post. I researched a little and came up with one that would probably make my top 10.

Dramatic- LOST- Through The Looking Glass
Total and complete mindf---k. A gamechanger.
Comedy- haven't seen it listed, so I'll submit "The Ski Lodge"- Frasier. Perfect comedic situation.

A recent one that is already a classic
The We We Are
If this didn’t have you on the edge of your seat for an hour, I don’t know what would.

My grandfather was in injured in the Battle of Bastogne. His foxhole was hit and he was the only one to survive. He received two Purple Hearts. He had shrapnel all over his body from that battle. It would have been cool to be able to watch that with him. He enjoyed telling us old war stories.
He survived Bastogne...then he was definitely a badass.

One of my all-time favorites...but my favorite of all Andy Griffith Show episodes would probably be "Bargain Day"...where Andy says "Call the man" 11 times to Aunt Bee.
