Zoom is asking all of its employees to return to the office for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began, when the tech company blew up as one of the main means of communication for people forced to work from home.

Zoom, which remains a leader in the post-pandemic remote work trend, is now asking all employees within 50 miles of a company office to go in at least two days a week on a hybrid schedule.

End of an era: Zooms tells employees to return

this isn't directed specifically to you but that is a very common sentiment on this place, I'd be curious as to whether everyone's employer shares that assessment?

Plus you don’t have to worry about encountering any Cyclops, Sirens or Calypso because you aren’t commuting.

Trying to train and retain remote employees is awful.

nope, can't put the toothpaste back in the tube.

let's see how it works out for Zoom but I predict it won't go as planned. even if it does, there are too many benefits to remote/virtual work for both employees and employers for that go back to the "norm".

I've been 100% remote since 2005. Not every company does it well and I've seen some who manage a team not adapt to it well due to trust issues, but that's a sign of a bad manager IMO.

frick Zoom

I found multiple zero day vulnerabilities in their crappy product including elementary cryptography errors

Now their new privacy policy gives them the right to steal anything you say or share on Zoom meetings LINK

I know a girl that worked for a tech company out of cali and she thought remote work was going to last forever so she moved to freaking Europe.

Got told come back or get fired.

my old Controller told us all the time, "As long as you hit deadlines, I don't care what you're doing." She was awesome to work for and treated us with respect.

if you've got good, competent people, mission hackers, that is a great approach, you facilitate your staff as to what they need to do their job but let them do their thing

You're either a middle management employee or own commercial real estate.

You know your office is struggling if you are still using Zoom.

Getting people back in the office isn't going to save your shitty product.

it's because it is a false statement. Can they work more efficiently, sure. But generally it isn't the case. The data proves this, and companies being the work force back also proves this.

Now, do I think WFH is bad, no way. I think it is a great benefit. And I think it should be a privilege that people have when they need to be home. Without taking PTO.

Zoom must've tweeted this memo out in a place with bad cell service in 2021 and it just now sent.
