College they pay for themselves with any major they want?
College you help pay for with caveats (school, major)?
Trade school?
Military?
Don't care as long as it's not in your house?

Something that involves them being out of the house.

College with whatever major or trade school & we pay within reason. If they want to go somewhere really expensive out of state, they’ll need to get scholarships to help cover the out of state fee.

Jobs they don't hate. Spouses they trust.

For them to have a passion or interest they pursue

For them to be responsible, non a-hole members of society.

Well, daughter is headed to college next year, likely Arkansas. We will pay provided our investment in her produces returns (good grades). The degree is just an opportunity to gain more options. It’s not a guarantee of a high paying job out of the gate and she knows it.
Now if she tanks in school, our investment does have its limits. She knows that her funding is merit based and can be revoked. It’s just another step for her entering the real world.
Same will be for my son when it’s his time.

Not to go into a lifetime of debt because society tells them what to do.

1) Go out of Louisiana
2) don’t accumulate debt
2) don’t accumulate debt

I will be covering my daughter’s college costs and expenses until she is done with school, whether that is undergrad or further.
My hope is that my daughter can start her life off with zero debt, and a solid education.

College. I’ll pay for it as long as it isn’t Bama, it’s not a worthless degree, and they don’t take forever. Same rules apply to grad school.

Military was the best thing that could have ever happened to me outside of meeting my wife, so I will never frown upon those opting for service - or better yet a service academy.
Every job I've ever had post-Army, the first thing we always talk about it my service.
Can't push them towards it, though.

I’m helping pay a portion ( incidentals, insurance, gas, fraternity, etc..) but he took a loan for of his room and board not covered by his scholarships
We may eventually pay for his room and board but wanted him to have some understanding of how expensive living is so the loans provide incentive to get more scholarships as his school offers a lot more after your first year
