Should be 4, maybe 5. For now.

10-4.
Drafting an email now to send to the powers that be. Will keep you updated on the progress, but coming from Draconian Sanctions...I'm sure this will get rubber-stamped through.

I think autobids is fricking stupid, same with "zero tolerance" policies on most things. Anyting that is concrete without room for common sense is just unnecessarily pinning you in a corner.
You could easily run into a situation with a lesser league (woudn't happen in the SEC but could cetainly happen elsewhere) where there's an upset in the champioship game an dyour auto-bid winner has 3 losses. That's silly.
Let everyone play 12 games (or 13, if you're lucky enough to make your CCG) then sort it all out after that.

So people are realizing that conferences arent equal and that just giving away bids to them is dumb? Wow. Who would have thought

SEC should just split off into their own thing.
Talk about having your cake and eating it too. Swell up to 16 members for more TV money and wanting to eliminate auto-bids for other conf champions because having 16 members fighting for a single auto bid and at-larges is hard.

The top 4 byes should have to go to a conference champion to keep that incentive but after that I’d just drop auto bids for conferences

While the most fair solution, it would likely result in college football becoming even more of a regional sport. Personally, I don't believe that is a bad thing, but no one involved on the money side of things wants that to happen. So we will continue to subsidize areas (basically everything west of the Rockies) where college football just isn't that popular.

The SEC should withdraw from the NCAA.
The NCAA needs the SEC, not the other way around.
SEC is a fool for staying the the NCAA.

There are some areas where it is very popular, but they aren’t the major media markets.

I don't really have a strong opinion either way. If they lowered the amount of auto bids or got rid of them altogether and just took the top 12 then that's fine with me.
But even if they kept the 6 auto bids, there's still 6 at large spots which is more than the total playoff spots we have now. If you're not one of the top 6 teams that didn't win a conference I'm not going to weep for you

Know whats silly? LSU and Bama could both finish 10-2 and tie for the division, with LSU winning the h2h and earning the trip to Atlanta as a result. Alabama sits idle at 10-2 with a CFP spot locked up, but 10-2 LSU's spot in the CFP hinges on them having to beat #1 Georgia in the SECCG because LSU probably falls out of the top 12 with a 3rd loss.
ETA: Thats why they should've done 8 teams with 6 auto-bids and only 2 at-large. 6 at-large spots makes it too likely of being a benefit to not having to make it to your CCG. With just 2 at-large spots, its likely going to teams that took their 1st or 2nd loss of the year in a CCG or an 11-1 team that didn't win their division.

LSU is also presented with the ability for a first round by and home field advantage in your scenario. While Alabama gears up to play in round 1.

Each conference should get 4 auto bids then add in others ranked in the top 32. Then have a 32 team tournament. It’s coming because the money will be huge for a first 2 rounds on campus then the Great Eight played in bowl scenarios. The Final four just like they’ve been doing.
I know everyone will say that’s too many, etc, but money talks and no one cares about regular season games except us diehards. We all know it’s going to keep expanding so why waste another decade. Just get on with it. More teams will draw more national interest. We went from 0 for decades (with liberal art students voting for the champ) then finally to 2. Then relatively quick it went to 4. Now in even shorter time it’s expanding again. Just go to 24 or 32 and let’s watch the upsets occur in December instead of always in March.

I am writing a strongly worded letter after I post this.

I'm pretty sure when all is said and done, the major conferences will have at least 2 teams from the division winners going. So ACC, BIG, SEC after that who knows. At the least all the major players lock up two spots.
