It is for sure. But nothing in that should be grounds for any disciplinary action. Clearly the result of someone or multiple people with an axe to grind

The worst thing suggested in that article is that Fleck and his coaches may have rushed some players back from injury, but then they quote a former player saying...
Okay? If a player isn't making progress on recovery, then maybe coaches have a right to question if he is following medical recommendations himself.
So basically, Fleck's methods are a little weird, and not everyone likes it. This board knew that when he was at Western Michigan. What a bullshite story.

Now why does that warrant an entire article and calling it “toxic culture”?
exactly. the whole he has weird slogans...ok and?? he still wins more than most, but how the frick does that forma toxic culture?
oh because i had to say i was elite but i was having mental problems...must be so horrid...for sure has ptsd from that
seriously the biggest nothing burger i have ever read about. the whole mental health bullshite is just that. if you have having mental health problems...fricking leave then. but guess what, the real world doesnt give two fricks about your so called mental health. either you produce for a company or you are gone.
whole article smells of..."I am a pussy and couldnt handle big boy football!"

Dan Nichol, Minnesota’s head football strength and conditioning coach who followed Fleck over from Western Michigan and interned at Iowa under disgraced strength coach Chris Doyle, gathered the team together after Fleck was hired, one of the former players said. The instruction was simple: Clap whenever Fleck entered the locker room. “We had to [practice giving Fleck ovations] multiple times — the first time, because some other people in the back were not moving as quick as he wanted,” a third player told FOS. Two other former players said that Fleck would reenter a room if he didn’t like the ovation he received.

Not toxic, but what a douche

One thing all college football programs have in common; disgruntled players that don't think they got a fair shake.

I'm not the biggest Fleck fan but Holy cow this was a bunch of garbage.

Wait the row the boat guy has some shitty slogans? Shocked.

Well it is the Big10.. part of life up in that cesspool of a conference.

This article just confirms what I already thought of Fleck. A strange guy with used car salesman vibes who wouldn’t be my first choice to play for if I was a D1 recruit. But no doubt a solid coach who has done well.
As for the ”allegations”: they’re a lot of nothing. Sports media now acts as if unhappy athletes within a program is some kind of scandal. Breaking news: there are college athletes who don’t fit in at the school they chose. Either adapt or transfer like everyone else has for decades. Unless Fleck starts losing or commits an egregious infraction he will remain the coach.

quote:Hell, even the article itself points out that isn't even against the rules.
That is one of the worst articles I have ever read
The biggest knock against Fleck is that if certain guys who were high character failed a drug test, he looked the other way

The only thing that’s troubling is that these are “allegations.”

The article officially became a joke to me when one of the “allegations” was that a strength coach “made” a player drink protein shakes to gain weight. Apparently this is considered newsworthy by the dweebs employed in sports journalism.

And Urban led not one but two programs to national championships. The times they are a-changin'

You might see some criticism on the two bullets about player weight and rushing players back from injury due to pressure from Fleck, but most of the article just highlights how frickin' weird and narcissistic PJ Fleck is - his silly gimmicks work at Minnesota, and will attract three-star players with lesser offers, but most four- and five-stars aren't trying to waste their time with standing ovations, sprinting the sidelines during a game, and answering in acronyms
