I'm not buying any of them but I like the Ford styling.
But then I kinda liked the Aztek, too.

Had to get a new car earlier this year. Damn near every dealership I went to had terrible inventory of vehicles nobody wanted bloated with marginal features and "upgrades" that took the price from bad to outrageous.
Glad its coming back to bite the industry.

I need it to get me to work and back (120 miles)
120 miles total or each way? If the first, most EVs these days would easily get you there. Even with the second, many would be fine as well.

haven't compared the electric rate (at home) vs gas but I'd imagine it to be cheaper at the moment.
I don't even have a EV preferred charging rate(multiple reasons), but my kwh is $0.10 per kwh. Depending on your EV, (like a model s long range is a 100kw battery for a 350+ miles range) or something like the f150 lightning extended range(131kwh battery for 300ish miles range). No ones is charging from 0-100%, but point being that equates to a $10-13 cost per "fill up". Many of the EV charging rates are 0.02-0.04 per kwh for off peak charging. So yeah pretty cheap.
Of course none of that factors the extra cost of the vehicle, cost od charger and installation etc etc. Which there are rebates to defray the cost.

I wouldn't buy an electric pickup unless I never intended to tow anything ever. Tech just ain't there, yet.

pure speculation, but I wonder if all of these EV plants are so heavily incentivized by the inflation reduction act that they dont care?
Yes, they designed a car, retrofitted / scaled up a plant(s) and procured inventory of pieces parts to manufacture enough of them to have them sitting on lots in less than a year.
Makes perfect sense.

Sure, for a Mustang they look terrible. But for a soccer mom car, it's better than most.

Is it possible that people that wanted EVs already have them and they overestimated the demand?
I don't think gasoline prices are high enough right now. I'm in Scotland now and they aren't doing much of the EV thing here either.

Apparently people don't want EV's
More like...apparently people don't want THAT EV. Teslas are all over the roads nowadays, so apparently people do want EVs, they just want Teslas for the most part.

My friend has a Mach E and loves it. In fairness he drove Prius before that. I got to drive it. Fast, quiet, and smooth. I was impressed.

How are these selling in China
Posted on 7/21/23 at 4:34 pm to SaintEB
quote:No because EV sales are rising considerably every year. Again, no one wanting that specific car does not mean no one wants EVs.

Not any more hideous than a Tesla Y.
The Tesla Y was an iconic muscle car?

I have a friend with one. At first, they mostly bragged about the cooler frunk.

Data from analytics firm Cloud Theory shows that in Q2, 2022 Mustang Mach-Es had turn rates — a fancy term that just means how quickly a vehicle goes from in the dealers inventory to being sold — within 30 days that sat at over 86 percent. By the same time in 2023, that number had dropped nearly 59 percent. This can be backed up by both dealer listings Ford sales stats as well.
Bunch of frickery here. The industry standard is "days supply", not the word salad above.
And the Mach E has a 116 day supply it appears.
A 60 day supply is decent with anything above that being excessive.

But I would not want to drive a couple hundred miles then have to wait from 1-4 hours to recharge my car to continue on my trip.
quote:Why would the battery die on the side of the road if evacuating?
I wonder when the next big storm is headed to the gulf coast, how many EV's will be left on the side of the road when their battery is dead
quote:doesn't need to make that trip without a recharge, it can make that trip by charging.
From New Orleans to Houston could be 8-12 hours. An EV wont make that trip without a recharge.

I think Tesla is so far ahead in this space that Ford may as well not even try.
If the government was going to spend the amount they have, they should have just monopolized the industry with Tesla.

10-15 minutes at a super charger. How many of these are there? How many people will be using them? How long will the lines be of people waiting to use it?

The battery will die because it is sitting in bumper to bumper traffic for hours, or moving at 15-20mph. While the car is basically idling it is still using battery power to run the AC, radio etc. Yes the EV could make a trip at highway speeds that distance, but not when the time is tripled or quadrupled.

doesn't need to make that trip without a recharge, it can make that trip by charging.
My statement above refutes this as well.

Too expensive. When you can get a mode 3 cheaper than a Camry you're not thinking about the prices Ford has wanted

Our tax $$$ have been being dumped into EV production for years.
Otherwise, the production of them would be miniscule.
Not only is the government paying these companies to build something almost nobody wants to buy, but they are using the same people's money who don't want them to pay for them.
