Needs to hold on to the ball. Talent big play ability or not.
Outside of like two games he’s never had an issue holding onto the ball. That was some false narrative the Rant built.

Hey, I admire your outlook by viewing something so relatively insignificant as the 4th or 5th string RB returning as "huge".

He had 4 fumbles last season on just 76 carries. Cain, Williams, Goodwin, combined, had 1. To put it in further perspective, he was T-2 in the nation for most fumbles by a RB.
His inability to hold on to the ball in the 2019 camp was the reason he slid all the way down to 4th on the depth chart...despite being arguable the most physically gifted RB on the roster. It's not just a "false narrative"

With our RB group, yes. It sure couldn't hurt. The dude is super talented if he could just get his shite together, finally.
He's missing too many of the other important intangibles.
It will be very beneficial to the team if he can stay healthy and academically eligible; maybe come in for a few big plays per game coming off the bench...
Personally, I think Trey Holly and Kaleb Jackson are going to be the next "Dalton-James Gang" at LSU and will get most of the snaps at RB if they can learn the playbook..............

and he went on to fumble the ball only twice in his Freshman and Sophomore seasons.
He has six career fumbles, and has lost four of those six. Six fumbles in 213 career touches. Two of those six fumbles came in a span of nine touches in one game. So four fumbles in his other 204 career touches, or one fumble every 51 touches. I'm not going to sit here and say that's a fantastic number, but the fumbling is not as big of an issue as this board makes it out to be. There were people proclaiming he should be benched and never get a snap again after UAB. It's a classic Rant overreaction.

Like most every one else, after 4 years of waiting I’m hoping for a breakout year for Emery. But did I miss something? Has the everlasting eligibility problem been solved for at least a semester or two, for sure? If so, let’s hope he holds on to the ball, beats out Diggs, Jackson, Cain and Williams for a great ending ride at LSU.

Sorry, but if it takes 4 years on campus for you to "get your shite together", just go.
You probably dont have the mentality you need to be counted on.

100% agreed. I'm tired of hearing about it

You don't think that John Emery is super talented?
I don't believe he is, no. This might be semantics, but recent super talented RBs would be Fournette, Guice, and maybe Hill and CEH. A level below would be Addai and Toefield. I am missing some guys, but regardless of what term you use, I would not put Emery on the level of any of those RBs. My best comparison would be Kieland Williams.

He's been at LSU 4 years and you can still count on one hand the amount of big plays he's made.
Well, in my opinion they were all last year. He made several big plays and not sure we win the Bama game without him.
I’ve always felt he was overhyped and just in seeing the eye test, he didn’t look like the other greats he was compared to at LSU from RB level. Faulk, Addai, Dominic Davis, Fournette, Guice, CEH, etc. Those dudes were retuning kickoffs or punts or making consistent plays for the team immediately.
But…. he came around on me list year in seeing “it”. If he can get the ball security thing fixed, he could definitely help us a ton if he’s the same as he was last year. Most dudes grow, so if he’s better than last year… wow.
Diggs/Williams/Emery as the main rotation with some Cain mixed in and we’ve got a stable.

No maybe in Hill. And those three guys were more than super talented, they were exceptional. Fournette and Guice were both pretty close to a generational talent.
quote:
CEH
One exceptional year, not really expected if we're being honest.
quote:
Toefield
Emery is averaging almost 1/2 a yard more per carry and has half the number of TDs in just over 1/3 of the carries.
quote:
Addai
Averaging 5.3 vs 5.0 for Emery 18 TDs in 490 carries. Emery has 13 in 190 carries. He is actually a good comparison. Same basic size, addai also had a ball security issue, particularly early on.
quote:
Kieland Williams
Was better statistically than Addai, Toefield or Emery.
